In light of recent events they have proven that no civilian should have a AR15, that is the non military version. Every able citizen who wants a rifle to defend their country as outlined in the Constitution should be provided a select fire rifle of their preference and at least a thousand rounds a year to be proficient with the use of the weapon. All schools should be required to provide weapons safety class like I went threw about 50 years ago. That is a social program I would support.

Just my opinion, yours may vary.

Makes sense to me. If I remember correctly, when Swiss males get out of the military, they're allowed to keep their personal weapon and equipment. I think it has something to do with being part of the militia. Maybe there's someone out there who knows the exact details, but I think it's something along those lines. :)

Funny, just last night as I was packing for today's range day, I took an M4 type out of the safe. My wife was sitting at her computer looking at stuff for sale and I handed it to her and said: "Prepare to defend yourself." Now she isn't a "gun person" but she took a moment, said "It's heavy"(it is a heavy non tapered barrel) and then said "Show me how it works." She sat for the 5 minute "load magazines like this, insert here, pull charging handle and let fly forward when there is a loaded magazine in place." This one has A2 front and MagPul folding rear which gives a decent combat "picture." I told her, just this one time, it's OK to point at the wall and go "pew-pew" but she didn't. I think for a second she connected with a "Ukraine State of Mind." Joe

I AM 100% onboard about arming the American people. We all NEED ARs to be able to inflict pain on the terrorists that may eventually come down our streets.

However, recent events have indicated to me that our enemies are not the citizens of the foreign countries that would invade our borders, but rather are the troops that are mandated by their crazy dictators.

It seems to me that the next war would not be fought by troops, but rather by missiles that may destroy us from the sky.

As such, although we DO need to arm ourselves, I fear that our safety might be beyond our control.

I'm happy with an AR, the select fire version should be only handled by those with proper training. I've been an instructor, and non trained shooters can get in lots of trouble with select fire. I've seen too much of it.

Select-fire is irrelevant, IMO, but marksmanship "never goes out of style." I've never seen anyone I thought could properly handle an M14 on auto, and I've seen a few try. :D Scares me.

Since I'm feeling too old to run and hide much, I don't need lightweight. I'm happy with an M-1A NM. If .gov wanted to throw me a couple hundred rounds a year for practice, I would accept it! (I'm not holding my breath. ;))

I believe it was General Yamamoto when ask if they were going to attack the US mainland after Pearl Harbor. He said NO there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass. Note The Gov. in a certain country is now handing FULL AUTO AK's and ammo to all it's citizens that will take one.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Yamamoto quote has been debunked.
