I've got one M&P 15-22 and one factory mag. Let someone use the gun, they left the mag at the range, and no one's seen it since. Now I have a magless 15-22.

Any advice on getting my hands on a mag, any mag, so I can at least use the rifle while I'm waiting (and praying for) things to settle down?

Should I just grit my teeth and pay double or triple to land one?

First of all, whoever borrowed you rifle and lost the mag is the one who should replace it.

At the very least put up a sign at the range bench stating that the mag left there was yours and see if someone returns it. That would also let other people at the range know the kind of people around them. If not, I would quit going to a range where there are theives.

Now, I paid $65 for my second mag and I traded $60 of ammo for 2 more. Thats what it was worth to me to have more than one.

You could always order from Plinker Tactical. Iknow they have a bad rep, but honestly many people have never any problems with them.

agree that the person who lost it should replace it.

I've loaned guns before. It's a gamble, but I try to be a generous person with all my stuff, what goes around comes around. But it is explicitly stated that if anything happens to it, the person responsible makes it right.

No, your so-called "friend" should replace it no matter how much he has to pay for one. And is should be a REAL S&W mag, not one of the aftermarket mags.

First of all, I regret that you are having to deal with this sort of thing. I have ordered S&W 15-22 10rd. magazines by ProMag from Tactical Advantage. They are currently out of stock. However they seem to get more in frequently. You might want to take a look. You can if you choose convert these magazines to hold up to 32 rounds by cutting the length of the follower tab. There are a number of examples of how to do this on YouTube. Here is a link to TA: Smith & Wesson - Tactical Vantage

Thanks for the advice!

Yes, lesson learned - and the only kind of people that I associate with are the honorable sort. Everything will square itself away, I'm just trying to figure out how to go about doing that in today's world.

I've signed up on notification lists for midway, tactical advantage - and I've been trying to get botach to fulfill my January order since ...well, January.

Here's a round up (of advice offered to me here, and other stuff I have found) if anyone else finds it useful in the future.

I see a bunch of stuff on gunbroker.com, but the prices are pretty wild.

I left a really nice phone at that range once, and they called me up on the land line to make sure I knew it was there. It's a good place, the staff is really helpful. **** happens. Shouldn't have left it behind.

( I'm in sunny South Florida, Doc! Hello to everyone; pleasure to meet ya. I've been lurking here for a while learning the ins and outs of being a new 15-22 owner. )
