No revolvers in the PNW?

i stopped going to the range here years ago,its a public range run by fish and wildlife and its now 100yds only, plus ya gotta shoot thru tubes,no fun

Do you go out to Kleber in Owen County?

From what I understand, all the public ranges are that way. You also aren't allowed to shoot handguns(or at least weren't the last time I went to one). I was there one day, and had a guy tell me that a CO ticketed him($200!) for shooting one...he was shooting a 22 while his daughter was shooting a 22 rifle in the next bay.

It's been a while since I've been to one.

Lots of revolvers here. We do have fairly liberal carry laws, so most people seem to prefer autos, either Glocks (my wife and I and most of our friends) or Kimbers. A couple of people I know carry j-frames. We tend to practice with them.

Most people carry revolvers (magnums) in the woods due to bears and moose.

I shoot at a local gun club where the revolver is common. The gun shows seem crowded with the black guns.

Dave, who converted the 586 for you, some pics would be nice. Seem as accurate as original caliber? Larry

Hamilton Bowen converted it for me, shortly before he stopped doing S&W barrel work. It's at least as accurate as the original factory .357 magnum chambering.

Here's a pic, there are more on the thread I posted about it a while back here on the forum: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-re...-586-back-hamilton-bowen-today-pic-heavy.html

I love custom guns like this, just got a model 15 made into a .32 long PPC gun from Andy Horvath. The pics of the gun is in the Competition section in the PPC gun pics thread. Cool gun you had made using the 4" 586, a well balanced and good looking piece. Don't want to hijack this thread. Have fun, Larry

I sold all my glocks a few months ago and replaced them with Ruger Blackhawk Convertibles and Single Sixes. As a hand loader, I find it much more rewarding working up loads for revolvers. And then there's the "Ruger Only" loads. As a 68 year old shooter with failing eyesight, I shoot at 7 yds alot and not chasing shell casings all over the range is a plus. I did keep one Taurus semi-auto that is my EDC.

I'm an old fart & revolver guy. Cut my teeth on S&W & H&R top break 38 S&W calibers. The only kind us kids could afford. Most were 10 or so bucks. Wish I still had them. Gun laws were not strict then. Even took them to school to show our friends & shot them after school. Tried semi autos but never cared for them. Only have 2 now, a Luger & a Ruger. Main carry gun is a 638 with handloads. Main hunting gun is SA 44 Colt,

I don't go to indoor ranges anymore.
No reloads, lead bullets, can't pick up shells and other BS.
Been a revolver guy for some time.
Do have one plastic .45 ACP, haven't shot in 10 years I think.
Now, the Browning HP and the 1911's get shot some.
But my 38's & 44's get shot the most and while hunting I'll have a 44 SPL
on my side or maybe the S&W 500 Magnum! :)

I'm in the PNW and I shoot revolvers.

I have been bringing two young men into the shooting sports over the last several months. Both of them really enjoy shooting my M19. I sold one of them my Single Six as his first handgun. It goes perfectly with his Henry Golden Boy.

In a couple of weeks I'm adding a new wheelgun to the stable. A mid-60's Colt's Detective Special. I'm pretty excited about it.

Try shooting a 32-20 K frame... Common remark: "That sure is a sharp report for a .38"

I have a nickel plated one that is 102 years old and when people see what it is and ask how old, they "just shake their heads", particularly if they see the fired cases and realize that they are "rifle cases!!" Even more fun is to bring a Model 52 and watch their shock when rimmed empties come from what looks like a semi-auto!! Dave_n

I just joined the indoor range in my town, though I've been there as a guest a few times.

I've never seen anyone other than me shoot a revolver.

I went a couple of days ago to shoot a 1939 Colt OP and a Smith Victory Model .38 Special. The only other person on the range was an old dude like me, shooting a plastic .22 auto. He would load all his mags, then shoot them rapid fire at a target at the ten FOOT line. He finally made a coaster-sized hole in his target, surrounded by plenty of strays.

I wheeled my target down to the 25 yard line and started shooting. He made a few overly-loud coughs at the smoke my factory .38s produced.

We wound up at the checkout getting our membership cards back at the same time. He showed the young guy his target and said, not bad for 15 yards, huh?

Not my business, but I see it a lot. I'm usually the only one to send my target all the way to the backstop. If you can shoot at the 25 then you can shoot at the 7. The inverse is not necessarily true.

I shoot at a local indoor range, and since my wife and I usually use the handicapped range at the end, we don't see too many other people, but I suppose most of them are shooting plastic semi's but I just don't pay that much attention to them. I shoot a semi myself sometimes, but even my semi's are "old school" (a Hi-Power and a Model 39-2). I've never had anyone but one of the range officers comment on what I'm shooting, and he comes over just to see "Watcha got this time?".

I do most of my shooting at 7-15 yards as do most other people it seems. Beyond that, the sights get sort of fuzzy. I'll run it out to twenty-five enough to convince myself it's not a really good idea. When my wife shoots I'll pull them in to five and even three yards. She's handicapped, and shoots either leaning against the bench, or sitting on her walker. Either way she's not real steady. She's safe mind you, she just still enjoys firing a few rounds.

We can't shoot lead bullets at this range, which annoyed me at first, but after shooting plated bullets a while and finding out how much cleaner they are, I wouldn't go back to lead if I could. My revolver brass I dump into a container I bring along, and my semi-auto brass, the range guys sweep up for me and dump back into my range bag. I always end up with more than I fired.
