Looked at both today, liked the two-tone Glock but to a blued steel and walnut lover, felt like a toy. The Sig is metal and looks a little clunky but more sturdy.
I'm probably tossing gas on a fire, but given the choice, which would members buy?

I own a Glock 19 and a Sig 229 both in 9mm. The Sig is the most accurate and reliable auto I have ever owned. It is heavier than the Glock, but it sure can shoot.

I have both. I have one Glock and 5 Sigs, you do the math:D

Depends on what you want to do with it. Carrying the Glock is much lighter but you might shoot your toe off.

If I was looking at two excellent condition used guns for the same money (maybe $400 or less), I’d take the Sig (duh). I wouldn’t buy either one at retail, but I’m cheap and used ones come up fairly often. Both are serviceable gun that work just fine.

Unless this is destined to be a duty weapon, I'd go for a G19 or a Sig 228-229. Another option would be .40 in either choice. The .40 gives you he option of .357 sig (new barrel either gun) The Glock gives you the additional option of 9mm (again with another barrel) The Glock takes a bit more psychological strength to overcome the lack of safety options. But if you use the proper holster and keep your finger off the trigger until you need it the Glock has the same trigger pull every time.

Just wondering, are both priced about the same?

I would expect the Glock, especially a used one, to be less...

Well, it looks like the Sig wins out. Actually I already got it today, just wanted others opinions. The Glock was cheaper of course, but if your going to take the plunge, take it.
Traded a 586 and cash for the Sig. I own a Beretta PX4 that is the bedside gun but wanted something else in 9mm. I thought about the .40, but I'm not a big fan and it would be just another caliber I had to get dies, brass etc for, I'm already setup to cast and load for 9mm, so the P226 got the nod. I now Glocks have an issue with cast bullets, hopefully the Sig does not.
This is a threaded barrel model, the owner of the shop is trading me a new standard barrel for a set of diamond target stocks, wanted the threaded in case I get a wild hair for a 'can'.
I'm not any kind of LE so daily carry isn't an issue, just plain old gunlover.
Here she is, as virgin as they come, still with packing oil and tags, that will change tomorrow AM!:

Glad you picked the Sig 226; a few years back I was faced with a similar question - which one to get. Glock 19 vs. Sig 226; The Sig felt better and that was it for me. WG

I'll be the spoil sport. For the price you probably paid, you could buy three (3) high points, one for the bed side, one for the car and one for carry. That's what I'd do. Too much is made of the launching platform and not enough about the human element or the projectile. The shootee is not going to appreciate the finer loints, nor the good taste of the shooter in using a SIG or Glock rather then the High Point.

or...I could have cleaned that Lorcin .25 that has been stinking up my other guns in the safe and used it, man, I wish I had thought of that first. Outsmarted myself again, Caj.

Can't a guy have both? Seriously I have both and like em. For a pure beater I like the glocks but I like my sigs but as others noted not at retail... the one in the picture I paid the least for is the sig 226. I had figured I would never get one to go with the sig 220 I bought right many years ago and found a deal I could not pass up a couple years back.

Sig mag prices and the agreement they made mec gar sign on the 220 mags annoy me but the guns are fine.

I REALLY dislike most conventional DA/DA only autos. The trigger reach is almost always too long for me, and the DA pull horrendous (especially the Beretta 96D).

On the other hand, I have two Glocks, a 19 and a 22 and really like them, especially with 3.5lb. connectors and the "$0.25 trigger job".

Sir, FWIW, I've shot both and prefer the Glock. The P226 is a quality gun (Mrs. Ron H. has one), but it's a big fat thing with a very long trigger reach. Then there's the DA/SA trigger business; the Glock's trigger is a little strange, but at least it's the same every time.

JMHO, and YMMV.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I see that you picked up the Sig. I have one Sig (P6) and five Glocks (34^2, 17, 26^2) for me the Glocks fit my hand better and I like the consistent trigger. I shoot the Sig but much prefer the Glock. I have read a lot about the inherent accuracy of the Sig, but I am not sure how they really judge that. I am more accurate with my Glock than with the Sig but still will not get rid of the Sig.

Hope you enjoy the Sig, they are good guns also.

My first gun was a Sig p229, second was H&K usp40. Both have now been replaced by glocks. I wanted to learn how to shoot very very fast and accurate.

You can get your hands higher up on a glock than a sig thus better controlling recoil.
Consistency is key thus I need each and every trigger pull to feel the same. So no DA for first shot.
I also want to be able to switch gun size and caliber but still maintain the same controls, sights, pointing characteristics, etc. Glocks allow me to do this.
Also I can detail strip a glock in just a few minutes, I never tried it with my sig.

Having said all that I feel a trusty j frame is still the best pocket pistol for me.

Between the two my pick would be the Glock 17. I like the way they feel compared to a Sig. Another plus is that the Glock is just about indestructable. The Glock is built like a hammer. And I still marvel at the firepower you get out of a 17 with a +2 mag extension. 19 rounds - amazing.

Well thanks to the Glock folks as well, still thinking about that one for a Christmas present for Mrs. SmithHound. I can say from experience that the DA/SA thing is odd from the PX4 I own. I've fired a few Glocks, but the weight, or lack thereof, put me off. They honestly feel, well how do I say this... cheap. They have all been very accurate and as far as people I know locally, reliable as a bowling ball. Still that polymer frame just doesn't light the fire.
I've already made up my mind to initiate paperwork Monday for a 'can', fired a few suppressed weapons and they are the bomb. As I said, I'm not a LE, just a phoneguy who loves firearms, so this is a hobby for me.
An empy~nester now and able to get things I've always wanted, never had a midlife crisis, young girlfriend, fast car, etc. Had a motorcycle but after running over the second dog on it decided I wanted to live another day. Guns are my thing.
Of course, if that young girlfriend could help out with the housework I could maybe convince the wife!.....nah.
