Why is it that you apparently find it "humorous" that 11 people have been killed. (Note to readers: see "stray bullet" thread.)

Interesting part about this type thing is.
Someone knew before it happened that it was going to.
Problem is, most people never figure out that they knew it before or after.

I am so sorry another loon got the order wrong and destroyed so many innocent folks and their families. Why can't these pieces of whale droppings simply make a list of folks they would have liked to have shot, then only take themselves out? And, be more memorable in your exit - remember the protesting Budhist priests from the sixties? A gallon or two of gasoline is a lot more expensive these days... and the remnants can be swept into an evidence bag. No storage required for a larger firearm that way, either.

I am sorry... cowards like these just make me sick. God be with his victims - and their families.

Just heard the news, here in Germany, near Stuttgart a 17 year old shot 16 kids and adults in a German school this morning.
Terrible news on both sides of the Atlantic.

No doubt we'll hear the hue and cry for world wide small arms control once again ( read- banning of privately held guns ). The UN will be pushing it.

and fired at police with his automatic weapon
I wonder if this is accurate. Ordinarily I would guess not, but there were other references to "spraying" bullets. Of course one round every minute might seem like spraying depending on your perspective.

This is from Reuters...not good...

Mass shootings have become a feature of life in the United States.

In one of the worst recent incidents, a gunman dressed as Santa Claus killed nine guests at a Christmas Eve party, before taking his own life in Covina, California, a suburb of Los Angeles.

On April 16, 2007, Virginia Tech, a university in Blacksburg, Virginia, became the site of the deadliest rampage in modern U.S. history when a student gunman killed 32 people and himself.

Guns are widely available for purchase in the United States, a country that prides itself on the right to own weapons for self defense and hunting. (Writing by Matthew Bigg; editing by Eric Beech)

I've talked to a few people through the whole "six degrees of separation" thing. This is bad, real bad. I've never heard of such. Small town America is now a page in history and there is no place where "that won't happen here".

My prayers are with everyone involved.

News over here say, the killer was a 17 year old male, that graduated last year from this school. At about 9:30am he entered the school, dressed in a black "tactical" suit and opend fire with a "big caliber handgun". He killed nine kids age between 14 and 15 years and 3 female teachers. Wounded many, 6 kids are in hospitals, their condition is not released. While on the run, he killed a worker in front of a psychiatric clinic nearby. He forced somebody to drive him to a nearby village, he let the driver go and drove to a car dealership where he was confronted by police. Two police officers were shot and wounded, two bystanders were shot and killed. A police officer finally shot the 17 year old killer, who was described as a student that never attracted attention.

Of course nobody could imagine he would ever do something horrible like this, but he was instantly described as a"low profile" student and a horror videos and violent games and guns fan. (Just the Nazi fan-club stuff is missing, yet)

So far the sad and bad news.

As most of you can´t imagine, we have very very strict gun laws and access to guns is rather difficult, but obviously "Where there is a will, there is a way"

Hermann, thanks for the information. This is just horrific. I pray for the victims' families.

If possible, keep us posted on any ramifications from your politicians.

Would either of these tragic events have been avoided with more stiffer gun laws, gun bans, etc?

No

Crazy, murderous people will always exist in society. A legally armed person in either situation would have saved lives. Unfortunately, the media will scream just the opposite. The UN and George Soros will be pushing their worldwide ban on civilian owned firearms this year. Count on it. These tragedies play right into their hands. Don't think they won't squeeze every bit of air time they can get out of it.

Prayers out to the victims family and friends.

Teaxs Roots:
Politicians on all levels already reacted with the demand for more strict gun laws and a whole lot of repressions for the legal gun owners.

Of course all this crap just affects the legal owners! There are serious estimations, that there are more illegal guns in Germany than legal ones.

However: Politicans - What else do you expect from these opportunist spineless mf´s?!

I am definitely sure that this tragedy will be used to restrict legal gun owners in Germany more than ever.

Hermann- my sincere condolences, I am very sorry to hear about such tragedy in your country. I think this crap will affect not only Germany but the whole EU community. Gun control is never strict enough for media and politicians who are always ready to offer more protection for the masses. The ultimate goal is to ban all kinds of firearms and then outlaw knives or samurai swords- UK is a fine example of this sort of thinking. Tragedies happened and will happen in the future. When loones have no access to guns they find another means like petrol bombs or black powder.
