:mad:Went in to my local gun store to pick up my brand new, fancy smancy, hot shot Ruger Alaskan 454 (2.5-inch) weeks for one to hit the market and lo and behold, I was told due to the new regulations here in Maryland, they could not sell me my gun! I was stunned! They said it was due to the last state administrations goodbye gift to us gun owners, that I would now have to go through another background check and a training course all to the tune of nearly two-hundred dollars! But I went through boot camp and served three tours in Nam. Nope, not good enough (bet some draft dodger made up that reg'). Oh, and if you are a veteran bring a copy of your DD214 and you will get a five peso's discount. And don't forget to go get the fifty dollar 'official, state endorsed' fingerprint thingy. By this time I was like, do I really want any more guns? I think this is going to be my last gun purchase. It was sweet while it lasted. Welcome to Maryland...

Your DD214 will exempt you from having to take the training class per se . If you are fully *Retired* from the Mil you would be exempt from the HQL. Depending on your tastes , handguns C&R eligable do not require an HQL.

every time you guys from the anti-gun states post something like this, I become even happier that I'm from pro-gun rights Missouri.... and our good neighbor Kansas, is doing even better on pro-gun laws, they're set to become the newest state with constitutionally protected concealed carry with no CCW permit needed......... although I don't know if open carry is covered, but I suspect it is.

In the anti-gun states, ordinary folks are 2nd and 3rd class citizens..... who the "state government & police" get to decide if they are trustworthy enough to be allowed to possess any weapons, but handguns & modern style firearms in particular.....you guys have my sympathy........... & move from there if you get the chance. No job & no home are worth living in virtual police states like New Jersey, Mass, Conn, NY, Calif etc...........

Here in outstate Missouri, police are looked upon as friends....... and our officers do not suffer from the us against them mindset of the inner cities.

I think you were given bad information. Veterans, active and retired law enforcement, and people who were handgun owners before the new law took effect are exempt from the training requirement.

You will have to get a Handgun Qualification License, which costs $50, and which requires that you be fingerprinted, which costs another $50 or so, depending upon who does it. (Baltimore's drug dealers, of course, who are responsible for most of our state's shootings, are exempt from that requirement.)

I have to ask: You were unaware of this new law? Did you just recently move here? When this was being debated in the General Assembly two years ago, it was all over the news, and thousands of us journeyed to Annapolis to lobby and testify against it. The provisions of the law were highly-publicized...how did you miss it?

You are obviously of criminal mind and intent, even if you haven't actually committed a crime yet. Otherwise, why would you need a big old handgun like that? The powers that be obviously know better than you what is good for you, not to mention the general welfare. Be thankful that a benevolent state is protecting you from yourself, not to mention the mayhem upon the population of the Great State of Maryland they may be preventing.

(Thank God for Georgia.)

I, for one, hope that this is not your last gun. That's a win for the anti's.
That is exactly what they want to hear.
Dig your heels in and fight back. It's easy for me to say this from Va., but I am concerned with states falling one by one, ( N.Y., Maryland, Cal., Co. etc.)
We all have a stake in this so don't be too happy you're in a pro state. I never thought Colorado would go the way it did. But, they did fight back and won a little back.

Yeah, well I live in VA as well and can tell you we cannot rest on our backsides here, not for a NY--pun intended, minute-- every pro gun bill but one was vetoed by out so-called newly elected-- now we are hearing about problems with some of the voting machines?? Yeah right- ;)

Hopefully he will be over ridden--

You're right, unfortunately, its a never ending battle.
Maybe, in a little over a year and a half we can push for some meaningful, non-interpretive laws with finality to put things to rest.
Maybe? One can only hope.

Hey, I resemble that remark!! I live in Massachusetts, the home of Smith and Wesson, and I just bought 3 guns last weekend. One was a .38 M&P from a gun show and two were .22/32 HFT's in the NH Amoskeag auction. God bless that C&R license.

I have a solution to bad gun laws. We need to get together and make a list of bad states. Then one at a time we attack that list. We get all of the gun owners nationwide to move to that state and register to vote. Then we vote out all of the anti gun politicians and move on to state number 2. :D

Move.
I buy guns whenever, where ever, however I want. Ammo too.
When you are the minority, can't win elections, leave.
You can buy (or make) New England claim chouder in the South. No other reason to stay there.

I live in IL, the last state to finally enact carry permits. We have to have a Firearms Owners I D t even possess a firearm. But,I can buy any (not full auto) firearm, either via a store of from an individual with just minimal paperwork, and have only a 3 day wait for handguns. (I won't mention what we have to go through to get a CCL).

I feel sorry for you guys who have all the restrictions on your 2nd amendment rights, here in Ms this is just part of what we are going to get.

Eliminates training requirement for an enhanced carry permit endorsement for active military personnel, honorably discharged veterans or retired law enforcement if they have already completed law enforcement or combat training with handguns as part of their service.
Exempts members or veterans of the National Guard or Reserve units from state's residency requirement for a regular concealed carry permit and lowers their minimum age requirement for a permit from 21 to 18.
Removes a provision in law that could leave Mississippians who currently and lawfully own commonly-used rifle cartridges for hunting, target shooting and self-defense vulnerable to state prosecution if federal regulations governing .223/5.56mm ammunition are amended by BATFE without any approval from Congress.
Makes clarifying changes to the state firearms preemption statute in light of a recent Attorney General opinion, bringing the law into line with the intent of HB 314 from the 2014 session relative to where cities and counties cannot ban permit holders with an enhanced carry endorsement (parks, governmental meetings and non-firearm athletic events)

I buy guns whenever, wherever and however also. And you can stay in New England and do it. And really, lets face it. Clam Chowder and Lobster anywhere south of Kittery Point is well, just not the real thing.

On top of that Maine is well on it's way to passing constitutional carry very soon.
