Wishing you the best! A friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 4 oral cancer 7 yrs ago. He's still kicking and cancer free (luck of the Irish,I think ;-) )

I will be praying for you now and in the future... I am a 3 time cancer survivor in just the past 6 years... rectal, lung & skin... it can be tough at times, but I am proof healthy is reachable... and with all the survivors here praying for you the path to recovery has been lit with hope.

Tongue cancer is a difficult one. Our son, now 41 was diagnosed with this about 15 years ago. He underwent an 11 hour surgery to remove half (length ways) of his tongue and rebuilt that with the inside of his right arm and replaced his right arm with his left hip.

They tie off the veins on the side of the neck, cut his throat from corner to corner and pulled his tongue and everything out to remove and rebuild. Lots of time to recover. Therapy as well.

Then there was the radiation that destroyed his perfect teeth (never a cavity) and now he has had many replaced, repaired and straightened.

I wish you the best as you endure this battle.

I should add that our son was always a tall, thin kid who was a track and cross country runner. Never smoked, drank or chewed, didn't even drink pop. The docs at KU Med said they are seeing an increase of this cancer in people and were doing two of these complete removals and replacements a day at 12 hours each.
