Not happy with Remington UMC

I was at the range today and was not getting good results with a new box of Remington UMC leadless in 38 special. I was shooting a Model 27-2 with 8 3/8" barrel. I tried a group from a rest and was only able to get about a 6" group at 75 feet. I was concerned that there was a problem with the revolver. Luckily, I had with me some Winchester 130 gr FMJ also in 38 special and I was able to get approximately a 2" group with that ammo. Maybe it was a bad lot, but I'm going to avoid Remington

Maybe a note to Remington will yield some information, they should at least know what their product is doing in the field.

You don't buy UMC ammo and expect good results. It's a good range ammo for having fun. Kind of like expecting Thunderbolt .22 ammo to give you the same results as CCI Stingers.

There wasn't much price difference between the Remington and the Winchester, and I didn't realize there would be such a difference in performance.

The thing is, the same ammo might shoot fine in another gun. I used the same load in my 1949-vintage M&P with fantastic results at an indoor range a couple of weeks ago. Shot out about a 1.5" hole dead-center at 50', shooting 2-handed, standing.

i dont use REM for the CQ issues that i've been noticing since 2009 or so. i used to own a taurus 92AF. ate everything i fed it, never a hiccup, untill i gave her some REM standard. fail to fire on 6 rounds of 15. FTE a few times, so i stripped the rest of the mag, went back to WWB and didnt have another issue.

I've always tried an assortment of brands and bullet weights in the guns I own that I choose not to handload for and then buy a case of what works best.

Yesterday at the range my 15yard groups ranged from more than 6" to less than two in a new M&P9C. After having my shooting partner reshoot the best, I'm now confident in my choice for carry.

Just because the UMC didn't shoot in one pistol does not mean that it is junk, although I have never found it to shoot the best in any pistol.

I have only shot it in 9mm ok but thought it was pretty dirty .

I have a few bricks of Remington Cyclone .22 LR that I was about to give away. Wouldn't shoot worth a darn in anything until I tried it in my Browning Buckmark. One inch groups at 50 feet. That same ammo shoots five inch groups out of my S&W K-22's.

I've shot the Rem UMC 9mm 115gr in both fmj and jhp and thought it to be pretty decent, and a bit snappier than wwb. I shoot about 250-300 rounds at a time so everything is dirty. It seems accurate out of my G19.

Try shooting it at 25 yards instead.

Has anyone pulled and measured the leadless bullet? I was told (range rumors) they were made slightly undersized because they don't compress the same as lead core bullets do to engage the rifling. Don't know if the guy was blowing smoke or if he knew what he was talking about.

I've quit buying ANYTHING with the Remington name on it. Ever since they were bought out the quality has been on the decline, and that includes everything from rifles to ammo to earplugs. The earplugs were electronic, one didn't work properly and the other didn't work at all. Their ammo used to be my favorite........not any more. How sad that the beancounters have ruined yet another formerly-great American company.

FWIW, next time grab some of the Fiocchi .38 Spcl. as it is SUPERB IMO. Their 130 gr. FMJ makes a great practice rd. for those who carry the Speer 135 gr. +p.
