Notre Dame Cathedral is burning,

It appears this fire will be extinguished the old fashioned way. By running out of fuel. A shame to lose such a landmark . . .

It appears much of the roof has been consumed, and the spire has fallen.

This is horrible. The Cathedral is one of the symbols of Paris, visited by thirteen million people a year. It dates to the 12th Century.

A heartbreaking blow to France, Europe and most of the world.

I remember in '92 when Windsor Palace burned the Brits were crushed as it was a symbol of pride and also the world's largest inhabited palace.

The Royals and the citizenry rallied their resources to rebuild at great cost during a time when England's economy was sluggish. The rallying cry and the effort did much to revitalize a country.

I pray the same happens for France.

So sad when historic places of old that had such meaning are gone. I don't believe the architecture alone could be duplicated today. The cost would be out of the question or even finding the skilled workers to replicate it.
A very sad day for sure.

OMG! Notre Dame is burning.

I don't do Facebook but Miss Pam does and she just saw where Notre Dame is aflame. Be interesting to see what happened on that.

If this was arson, it would make me very me sad. Peace be with everyone here.

From the associated press—“The cause of the blaze was not known, but French media quoted the Paris fire brigade as saying the fire is "potentially linked" to a $6.8 million renovation project on the church's spire and its 250 tons of lead. Prosecutors opened an investigation as Paris police said there were no reported deaths. Some 400 firefighters were battling the blaze well into the night.”

By far the most spectacular edifice I saw during my one trip to Paris many moons ago, including the Eiffel Tower, Versailles, and the Louvre. Sad to see it damaged so badly...and during Holy Week too.

They report that it is undergoing a restoration. Even though as a contractor, it pains me to say it, I'll bet it was a sloppy worker using a torch, like a welder, plumber or roofer. Wouldn't be the first time it's happened.

I hope no one was injured, and I too think it's irreplaceable. A lot of expensive art work was on display too I hear tell.

This is not just a loss for France or Catholicism, but for all of mankind. To have endured since the 12th century, survive WWI, WWII...and be burned by a careless worker? My first thought was a terrorist attack similar to 9/11, and I hope that I'm wrong. I'm sure that it will be rebuilt, but the priceless art and artifacts that were lost....

My prayers for all....

Best Regards, Les

Very sad to see. I spent a lot of time there. The stained glass is/was incredible! They say it will be re-built, won't be the same though. Sounds like no injuries, so thank God.
