For those of us here who carry everyday and are guilty of being lax on practicing with our carry guns (you know who you are) this maybe the best time to remedy that by getting out and shooting, practicing reloads, FTF drills, etc. I make it a point to shoot mine at least once a month, but in the summer months when we shoot in air conditioning it is harder. The indoor Club I belong to will not allow live draw and fire drills so I have to make my mind up to go to our outdoor Club, sweat our asses off and just get it done.

In the light of what has been happeneing around the Country lately, this could not be a better time! Especially for the older members here! No excuses Guy's,- let's get it done! Hey, you might have fun as well - lol

Yes, LA is the hot spot today. What about tomorrow??

Anyone, anytime, who is serious about cc needs to practice, and do so often. Marksmanship, esp with a handgun, is a perishable skill-use it or loose it. Simply “owning” or even “carrying” a firearm does NOT mean you are capable of using it effectively in an emergency. A handgun is NOT a talisman that will automatically protect you. It is simply a tool. Whether it will keep you and yours safe is entirely in your hands.

I average out to around once a week at the range. Even when my goal is benchrest rifle I carry a J frame 22 or 22Mag to shoot to keep my finger up to snuff. At least once a month the trip is strictly handgun with a bunch of retired LEO's who like to push the training envelope. It ends at lunch time in a local Italian restaurant with stories of past experiences. Most of which are true.

The amount of human stupidity you see in thirty years of inner city patrol times six or eight cops, deputies and special agents is beyond belief. These range and lunch days are a retirement highlight. I'm a hour west of DC so surrounded by armed government types. We're not worried about our community being overrun.

I cancelled my fancy range membership last year and only been couple of times to a $10 range. I used to shoot every other weekend and really need to go have plenty of ammo.

I am constantly dismayed when I read or hear about a public shooting somewhere an armed good guy almost never intervenes to shut it down.
It is a sad fact that the vast majority of people will not carry a gun, permit or not.
CARRY YOUR DAMNED GUNS, PEOPLE.

Citizens aren't police and running into a gunfight with no knowledge or context can easily lead to an undesirable legal outcome.

If you are in some public place and you see some guy come through shooting or stabbing people, you would know what needs to be done.
Two or more people having a violent dispute over something, better stay out of it in almost all cases. You don’t know the back story. Put distance between yourself and the quarrelers. Get the heck away from there if you can.

Thats not the society we built. The society we built says that my EDC can be safely used for one reason: Get me and mine to safety. That might or might not involve me engaging in a gunfight if its necessary in the course of getting me and mine to safety. Anything outside that box risks life ruining legal peril and ultimately its each persons responsibility to protect themselves.

You don't know what's happening, and you don't know if the police are hot on his heels...if they are, now you are shooting in the direction of the police too. Bad idea to involve yourself unless necessary.

You don't know the backstory of any violent dispute you interject yourself into the middle of.

Thats my advice in any violent situation. A gunfight is the last resort.

But you cannot protect even yourself if you don’t have a gun to begin with.

I made it a point last Wednesday to practice with my main SD guns. I have the same indoor restrictions you do but I can pick them up off the bench.. I'm going to do it again soon because I don't feel that I got a good enough workout that one session and honestly, I wasn't very satisfied with my performance. It's been too long since I specifically concentrated on SD. I don't mind sweating outside as long as it isn't TOO hot and I don't get caught in a brutal T-storm.

My goal is to keep me and mine safe, not you and yours. Not threatening me or mine, or preventing us from getting to safety, I'm not even sticking around long enough to be a good witness . . .

You can indeed protect yourself even if you don’t have a gun. Every waking hour needs to be in condition yellow - it’s mainly relaxed and just being alert. It’s not hard to do. Starting with that you’re likely to see there might be something you need to avoid.

And in regard to armed citizens not stopping mass shootings, I get it when there’s an active shooter on the scene. Although the average “armed citizen” with a pocket sized 380 probably doesn’t really practice enough to hit anything past bad breath distances in an relaxed state and practice sessions are few as far between, if ever again. Rival factions shooting it out are another matter for which I’d like to avoid all the way. You don’t really know which faction’s more at fault but you’ll be the one held accountable in the aftermath.
