No I was well prepared & started stocking up in 2008 or earlier so I have a good supply on hand, when it becomes more available at down to earth pricing I will pick up some more.

I get a high every time i open the safe and go squeeze off 1000rds of .22lr. I enjoy shooting while everyone else is out worrying about finding ammo.

Rule of thumb. Always make sure u have enough ammo to make it through a few years without needing to buy any more.

$60-$80 a brick!?! That's what happens when old retired guys troll the Wal-Mart's and Cabela's very single day. I hear it all the time from the clerks. They have nothing better to do so they snag all of the ammo from everyone else, then turn around and sell it for a profit. Not only are they hurting everyone else by hoarding, but they're falsely driving up prices locally. I'd rather not shoot than support these idiots.

It's the same around here.

The ammo stalkers even go as far as blocking aisles with carts or forming human walls with their buddies. It's almost funny to watch from a spectators perspective. Kind of like the Jerry Springer Show.

I haven't bought any .22lr for quite some time now. I still have a little bit, but I just shoot a lot more .223 these days.

^This is who I'm targeting and who I have the issue with. This behavior is ludicrous. For 22 ammo? I pity that existence.

Still hard to find any here in WV. Local Cabela's has a 100 rd. limit. Walmart usually has none, at least when I'm there. Can't find it online either. I can shoot my centerfire stuff, I reload for all of them. With millions of rounds of 22 fired each day, it seems supply will never catch up with demand. How much is enough? I'm not able to afford buying cases of it, be very happy with a few hundred a month. I'm not driving to Cabela's every day to buy 100 rounds, so I shoot my centerfires for less than most are paying for a couple boxes of 22. Will this change, heckuva question!

Mr. Decipher, I purchased my ammo at a time when Ronald Regan helped Americans be proud of who they are. Ammo was available for purchase by everyone, I did. The several times of "idiocy" that have occurred since did not affect my ability to shoot when I want. Rather than frequent a Walmart or any other outlet I chose to share my stash with the Hunter Safety program. How many rounds have you shared? Yes this old guy did not like being categorized.

There is a thrill of the chase and a high when you make a score on ammo. About 6 months ago I got enough to feel secure and now only buy occasionally when I find the right ammo at a reasonable price.

Here's hoping enough others get what they consider enough of the ammo and supply and demand get back in balance sooner rather than later.

this "old guy" stood in line at Sportsman warehouse this morning with a bunch of people of every age and scored a brick (500) of 22lr for $23 which is about as it gets around here....Wednesday is ammo day and there is always a line...they had more 9mm and s&w40 than they have had in awhile....hopefully it is getting better

Like I said, I am not targeting "old guys." I'm sorry that you guys took offense. Nor do I have an issue with how you guys are acquiring your ammo. My sole issue is with these guys that live around me who go to great lengths to get the little bit of 22 that finds its way here. It's obnoxious to keep buying it all up and reselling it for an insane amount. It hurts the local demand and they essentially have a monopoly on the local stash. That's why the 22 ammo thread is my new best friend. I won't support these idiots, despite their age. Besides, I never indicated the cut-off for being old. I'm 33. That makes me old by some standards. I'll rub some bengay on my wounds and move on. Haha. Sorry fellas.

I just hope everyone remembers this BS.

If and or when availability returns to "normal".

Follow the lead many here have demonstrated.

Buy it cheap and stack it deep!

It's not hoarding, it preparedness!

I have no sense of humor! Grrrrrr :O

Haha. Not YOU old guys. The old balls by me who do what they do. Guess I could have been more clear on my target audience.

ok Decipher I will quit picking on you...wasn't really mad although it did strike a nerve since I am old compared to 33 ...I certainly don't want to cause a real problem on this great forum..I do agree with you about what some of the people are doing...we have an LGS that has a guy at WM every morning checking on ammo and I can tell you I would not buy ammo there if it were the last to be had as they are the most expensive around and their customer service sucks....good luck in your quest for ammo....:D

Ok I have to admit I drove through the Walmart parking lot on my way back from lunch today. I resisted going in, but I did break out in a cold sweat just thinking about it. Maybe I should go talk to a professional. :D

Walmart is the only place around me that consistently gets .22lr.
It's do the walmart shuffle or nothing for me.

I refuse to scour the net, worry about back orders and get ripped off with ridiculous prices and shipping. Why would I want to compete with hundreds of thousands of people online to see who gets the notice and pushes the button first when I can compete with a few people locally and spend a lot less $ to boot.

At least in my area for over a year .22 LR ammo has been vIrtually non-existent. However, using the links found in the post on available .22LR ammo at Cabelas has at least allowed me to buy some ammo at a delivered price of $ .06-.07 per round. This has allowed me to again return to shooting my 18-3 as well as my RIA 1911-A1 fitted w/ a .22LR conversion unit. On Tuesday I had the pleasure of an abbreviated 100 rd. Session at a local indoor range. Yesterday I had some time so I went to a local indoor range which is still finishing construction. They kindly allowed me to use a completed lane for practice, 500 rds. later I headed home. It felt like things were getting back to normal!

I am a retired old guy. I buy .22 ammo when I can find it. Have not resold any of it, but if I needed to I would feel no guilt. I can not understand how buying a scarce gun and selling it at a profit is alright or buying a house and selling at a profit is alright, but buying ammo and selling it at a profit is bad? Or is it a time thing? Maybe if I had bought it 20 years ago and then sold it, would that be alright? If I sold it but did not make a profit, would that be alright? How about if I just made a small profit? Maybe took it to a friends house and sold it to him for what I payed for it, and got a free dinner out of the deal? When I go to a gun show and see someone with what I consider a rip-off price for ammo, I do the same thing as I do when I see a gun I thing is over priced. I keep walking.
