OFFICIAL (IN STOCK) 22LR AMMO THREAD

I've been silently following this thread since last Friday when I bought my first 22 caliber pistol. I figured that I had the 10 day waiting period in California to try and find some ammo. I think California is hit particularly hard with the ammo shortage. Anyway, thanks to everyone for their contributions. I have been successful and suggest attacking on multiple fronts. My first score was with my local Walmart where after days of stocking both via phone and in person I scored 300 rounds of CCI for $. 07/ Next I got a beep from gunbot for 1,000 rounds of CCI from PSA for $. 086 shipped. Then yesterday I went to a local range and they had 555 winchester for $30 (before tax) so I picked 1,110 more. This isn't amazing, but not to shabby in my situation. Now I have ammo for my new gun. Keep up the good fight!

I was able to get some of the "new tuna can" packages of Federal 36gr copper plated hollow point this AM at Cabelas. This is the mysterious nitrogen sealed can folks have spoken about.

With tax it ended up just north of $.063 per round. Not great but not bad for copper coated. The 325 40gr lead round nose I got from them a couple weeks ago ended up being about $.043 per round.

Not bad but not awesome. Gives me a little buffer until I can get my next Wallyworld Federal bulk :)

Think of how much the can costs, compared to a cardboard box ... Marketing hype at its finest. :)

Not sure where you're at, but the shortage is obviously not uniform through the state.
I have a friend with space command at Vandenberg who's had NO problems finding ammo around Lompoc, Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo. He's actually finding more and at better prices than I am in TN.
The secret is to look at the places you don't automatically think of selling ammo. He's been buying at some Mom and Pop hardware store -$21/brick 22 and 14 for 9mm.
Wish I could find that much stock here lol

Here's a pic if anyone is interested

Sure ;)

But I guess I should have shared this... I was about 15 deep for the early opening Spring Sale this AM and of course everyone headed to the ammo first. At Cabela's 10 per limit, I should NOT have gotten any but everyone, and I mean EVERYONE was looking and poking and scanning for boxed ammo. I saw this on the top shelf remaining untouched. I waited until I could maneuver in and grabbed a few (NOT 10 or even close) and walked off. Turning back I was STILL amazed until the guy who filled the void I left said "here they are" and like Turkey vultures on fresh road kill, the shelf was clean!

My second stroke of luck came at the checkout. I was making small talk with the folks at the register and one of the ladies at the next register over says, "you need more of that?" and placed another tin on the counter. The guy that just checked out didn't want to pay "this much" and I'd rather not carry it back there :)

I guess there is reward for not being greedy!

So I guess it's safe to bury that can in the backyard!

Glad some of the big stores are holding some for the wknd warriors

Long time reader (in the Pistols forum), first time poster. This forum has been extremely helpful to a new 15-22 owner. I haven't shot it yet because ammo is so scarce. I did manage to get a few expensive match grade rounds (.14) at a LGS. Sometimes persistence pays off, and sometimes you get lucky. The wife was going to Wally World to get a few things, so I asked her to see if any .22lr was in stock. She's bringing home 2110 rds of Winchester at about .04 a round. Be encouraged fellas.

WOW, this late in the day is almost unheard of around here. What general area of this great land are you in?

I know. She got it around noon. I'm in Birmingham, Alabama. I've been to that walmart a few times a week with no luck. She goes in for paper towels and scores.

I've come to the conclusion that is the secret to finding ammo. I'd been looking for 9mm for over a month with zero luck. The wife goes to wallyworld for laundry detergent and comes home with THREE Remington 250rnd value packs.
But on the same note, I know several Army guys here who spend their entire day working online and shop for ammo 8hrs a day with no luck. two weeks ago I logged on here saw the post and got 3 cases of Federal Automatch from Cabela's. Pure luck. But everybody got some, still had enough left for the scouts and we all had a good day at the range.

Picked up 3 225rnd boxes this AM @ local Walmart just by stopping by after work last night. It's hit or miss.

I see your from Titusville, I stopped by that Walmart this morning about 8:00 am. They said they had got some in but was gone before it hit the shelves. Just curious what time did you stop there?

0750...there were 5 boxes when I got there.

Those are the most ridiculous prices I have ever seen. I can't believe people like that can sell the ammo at that price and sleep at night. The Remington sells for $23 at the local Walmart. People like that should lose their distribution license!!

I posted about them on another site earlier today because they were charging $6.25/round for Black Talons. I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants.

To avoid a scolding and make my post topic related, yesterday I saw bulkammo.com briefly put up their "Bulk Rimfire Ammo" link and it listed .22LR, although nothing was in stock. The link has since been removed. I've been there off and on refreshing since, because I figured they may be getting some in and were getting the site ready to post it when it did. I could be wrong, though.

I've been having luck at small pawn/gun shop's.

I did notice that a lot of pawn shops are now selling guns, accessories and ammo.

I've had better luck at pawn shop stores then Walmart or gun shops. You have to think outside the box sometimes...

So here's how this went down I checked walmarts website to check on the availability of 22lr ammo assuming what all of us know to be true...out of stock. However to my surprise they listed Remington 325 rd packs as in stock in 3 of my local walmarts. Cha Ching or so I thought. I called all 3 and instead of asking for sporting goods and getting the same disgruntled employee we talk to all week I asked then ice old lady at the front counter to run the Walmart UPC and see if they were in fact in stock. All 3 nice ladies told me yes. However they all put me through to sporting goods or a manager to cover their tail. And all 3 backup associates told me that they were in fact put of stock. The last manager I talked with I attempted to get to the bottom of it. She told me they are not hoarding ammo what they have is on the shelves and the one I frequent which I know for a fact they stock their ammo at 930pm the manager told me the best time for me to get it would be between 8 and 9 am!! I've watched the, crack open the boxes at 930pm. I only thing I can think is a. The ammo shows up in their inventory before they receive it because I know they get their trucks at 9pm every evening or b. which I've heard from an inside source which I didn't believe was true until this encounter was that they keep the ammo in the back and put it out as they see fit and they actually are hoarding it. I'm heading up to Walmart now to do my usual hang around the gun counter until the ammo comes in so I hope that the first one is true and I will be rolling in 22lr after all this is said and done. I will update as the Walmart associates feed me the bs.

I noticed my walmart saving ammo under the counter for people. When I asked about getting on the list I just got the run around and was told I needed to speak to the manager. I wonder how much is even making it on the shelf. lol

I'd take the time to speak to that manager and if he is "in on the list scam" send a note to corporate.

a walmart, 50 miles round trip had 223`s/federal/100 rd. ,$34.95 as per the walmart internet. called, they had 2 boxes left, and they wouldn`t hold them for me. didn`t go. tonight found 2 stores w/ them listed, local walmarts, called, but not in the sporting goods shelves. so if they have them posted on the internet at the stores, are they coming in, or someone got them, maybe going to ebay? thoughts, info and maybe this has happened to someone on the thread that has seen them on the internet, but not at the store. thanks for any info!!!

Here you go... says in stock..the limit is 1...not cheap, but not as high as I've seen lately.... $42.00 plus shipping

Remington Golden Bullet .22 LR ? 525 Rounds of 36 gr Plated Hollow Point Ammunition - Keepshooting®

$10 shipping plus $2 tax for me...i live 15 minutes away from them and it won't give me an option to pick up. It definitely won't be around tomorrow when they open. Dagnabit!!

Can't stomach the fact that I'm paying that much for shipping down the street. Even though 10 cents/rnd is not bad nowadays, I still couldn't do it. I'll go without for now.
