It has been a while since we had a register magnum thread so I thought I would post some pictures of this old gal from 1937 that went to south Texas.

The holster is a Eubanks that is marked S&W 357

Now THAT's got character! And the gun's not half bad either.

:D

That's the kind of gun I like to see -- a special model in a condition that makes it look used and cared for rather than embalmed and laid away. Excellent piece, just excellent!

I agree. I enjoy seeing the prissy ones too, but the ones with the signs of use but good care are the ones I really find interesting. Great old gun. :)

Now, right there ya go fellers...Y'all talk about ridin' the river, bet that old gal could spin a yarn or two.

Before I forget...

I'll take 'er !!!

Beautiful rig. Southern Ohio, huh? Whereabouts? (I escaped from Portsmouth in '77.)

Thats a nice honest working gun with character.
Although we may not know the exact history of a used gun I find that they have a certain mystique to them that is not attainable with NIB guns.

Old 357

Now those have an aura... Trails ridden. Adventures accomplished. Campfires and starry skies in happy profusion.

What a splendid pair of companions!

Dyson

Blujax01, I have been living in the Georgetown area for about 20 years now, but as Rburg mentioned I am really a hillbilly from the hills of east KY.

A little more info on the old gal.

Does the name A.J. Eilers ring a bell with any of you Texans?

Thanks Tim

There was a prominent businessman by that name in the Austin, Bastrop and San Antonio area around that time. I wonder if the reference to Sheriff office in the letter is an indication that Mr. Eilers was a good friend of the Sheriff and asked him to order it.

If the "businessman" A.J. Eiler is the one in your letter, it looks like there would be plenty available on him.

Very interesting letter and the gun is outstanding.

"It was sighted in at 50 yards using magnum ammunition and a dead center hold."
I did not know S&W would do the sighting in at the factory per the customer request. That is really interesting, I wonder if the factory ever put out a standard on the non-adjustable sighted guns? I asked in another thread, I got some responses that were pretty informative, but nothing like this written on a factory letter!
Thanks for copying the letter, that is really a great bit of history and you are lucky to own such a interesting gun.

Rabbit, it was a standard part of the registered magnum order to have the revolver sighted in. One could specify type of ammo, range and type of hold. It has been rumored that DB Wesson did most of the sight in himself.

This is all part of the mystique of the registered magnum.

Tim

I like it, Tim.
Why don't you drag yo'self out to Tulsa and hang out with us? :D

Edited-
I asked what else you knew, but, never mind- thought I'd seen that baby before.....
