Old Eyes, New Scope, and Poor Shooting

So if I may ask, what made you want to get rid of the Weaver?
If it was the old 3/4" "slim tube" scope, I loved mine, until the lens
started getting dark or stained and turning yellow.

Would have kept it if I knew that it could have been fixed.

Now I have a fat Tasco on my .22 rifle.
No way am I going to the base and rings, set ups on a little .22 rifle.

If you are speaking to me: It became really hard for me to see through. I gave to someone in Tennessee, I think.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

"old guy " eyes for rifle shooting: the peep sight is the best bet. the older you get, use a bigger sight apeture.

At the range for load development for 17Rem, 6mmRem, 30-06, I always used the lower end of magnification for shooting and then the top end of magnification for looking at the bullet hole in the target. That 17Rem at 200yds was still difficult to make out bullet hole at 24X magnification. A decent spotting scope with a large objective (for resolution) overcame that problem.
But it sounds like you have a parallax problem.
I'm always looking left/right up/down to check the parallax. A parallax problem WILL open up group size. Once you get used to checking the parallax, it'll become habit for every shot.
