For whatever reason, I have never had much of an interest in black guns. I had one here or there, but they kept going away.....I just could not fall in love with any of them...AR's, Glocks, whatever.....
Now this summer, a forum friend did my father a favor and helped him locate a rifle that he was really lusting after, and this friend was trying to liquidate some guns to further his collecting interests. So....I felt obligated to purchase one of these black guns as a way of saying 'thank you' to a kind-hearted soul.
So without further ado, here is what began the shady side of my collection - a fairly early Glock 17, as new in the tupperware box. I don't know how it happened exactly, but a LGS buddy somehow talked me into another early 17, also very pristine. After watching the entire 6 seasons of Justified, I can not help but provide shelter for these two wayward orphans.
The knife is a Kershaw Leek. It is super thin and is my alternate carry when I am not in work clothes or blue jeans and my big Benchmade looks awkward.
Long long ago, I had a Glock 21, again an early one without grooves or rail, but it seemed very blocky and heavy to my teenaged 165lb self, so it went away. Later, after I was married, I came into a Glock 20 10mm, same deal, no grooves, no rail. It fit better, as I had grown into a somewhat larger version of myself at 220 lbs. I never got used to it, and it let me down when I was protecting our herd bulls, so it went to the Glock armorer for the fix, and then went to a better home.
Having seen the new 5th generation Glocks with the groove-less grip, I was reminded of what it liked about them when they first came out. My mother's father, a full bird Colonel in the US Army, had acquired one of the first Gen 1 Model 17's to hit our shores and he had it on top of his TV set until the day that he went on to his great reward. He regularly commented on the 18 rounds on board. If it was good enough for him, I guess that I can give it a fair try
(that Gen1 17 is in the care of his son now, maybe one day it will find its way to my collection).
