Most employees there have no clue about guns. As long as you are using a proper holster, it is fine.

Striker Fire pistols don't need Thumb Safeties. If they did, S&W, Ruger and others, would not offer the NTS variants as an option... and of course, Glock would be out of business.

Your response should always be "Why?" This can usually be followed up with another "Why?" when the inevitable goofy response is given, although a "Explain exactly how that could happen . . ." is also acceptable.

I agree with this.

I also recently read where striker fired guns don't fire when dropped like the old hammer style.

Also - take your gun (unloaded but cocked) and try to holster it any way you can and make it fire. Try to pull the trigger while holstered. If you can't you will probably never have a problem with accidental firing while holstering either.

That's uncalled for. Just because a guy works at a particular store doesn't make him an idiot. In this case he was wrong, but that's no reason to bash everyone at that store.

I'll put this in the form of a question, do you know how your gun works? How the thumb safety works? Why is a gun safer with the thumb safety on? IS a gun safer with the safety on?

In my class, I always ask this question, "Does the thumb safety make your gun safe?" No one has ever got that question wrong. Everyone has answered, no. They are correct to say that.

In the M&P, the thumb safety only blocks trigger movement. If the gun is in a proper holster, one that covers the trigger, isn't the trigger protected from movement? So, how does having a thumb safety make an M&P more safe?

If that were true cops would not carry their guns w/one in the chamber. I love the "experts" at Cabelas, or any other store, who claim all sorts of things w/o having a clue. I was once told never to carry a gun that did not begin w/a four in the caliber. I was twice his age, spent 30 yrs. on the job and used deadly force more than once, but the "expert" did not know that. I let it go b/c I look more like a retired accountant than a retired LEO, and there was no point in embarrassing the guy.

Just practice proper pull techniques .. keep finger off trigger unless you putting rounds forward. ... i carry a 9shield no safety with 1 in the head. . Always.. i alternate from iwb and pc with the occasional under arm carry. .. i always do practice pulls (3) when putting my gun on and off me.. i keep my finger straight, i dont ever put my finger on the trigger.. when the time comes im very confident that i will remember to do that part no problem...

Watch this video, the firing pin saftey acts the same way as the stricker block does in an M&P, once you understand how the stricker block works, you will understand why the only way these guns will fire is when the trigger is pulled.

I carry a Shield or G19 with 1 in the pipe appendix style everyday. I have the Shield with the safety but never use it..... Ever
