A friend has a First Model Russian he wants to sell. This is a commercial revolver, not a Russian Contract. It is in the transition range where the trigger activated cylindrer stop and over sized cylinder pawl were introduced. I am looking to try to get a value on it for him.

The revolver is mechanically sound and appears to be matching.
Thanks!

Joe, From the photos, it appears to be a grey gun with no finish left, but mechanically OK. Correct? If so, in Calif., this would probably put in in the $2,500-$3,500 range. Maybe the transitional factor might push it to the upper end of the range, if a collector was looking to add that feature to their collection and fill a niche until an example in better condition could be found. The economy has really hurt the prices of guns in less than minty state. Ed.

Thanks! That's about what I was thinking. I have only seen pictures of the piece so far, but it belongs to my friend's grandfather and he needs to sell it. The published transition range to second model mechanics is 18634 and 19175, this one falls nicely in that range. I'll pass the word.
