Last week, I saw an auction for an S serial number Model 29-2 6.5" on GB. Definitely not a minty gun, but a good honest shooter. I'd been looking for one, but most have been going for big money lately. The bid on this one was still pretty low, so I threw out a lowball bid that I was sure wasn't going to be enough to buy the gun.

Well, as the auction wound down, I was still the high bid... it got bid up to within $5 of my max, but never passed it...

USPS even delivered it to my dealer three days early!

Initial inspection reveals a gun that looks to have been carried a lot more than it was shot. It came from Idaho, so I'm guessing it was someone's bear gun. Speed loader cut Target stocks are obviously not original, but they're a nice pair. S3182xx s/n puts it ~1969.

I like a good, honest shooter that looks like it worked for a living, so I'm 100% pleased with the purchase, even if I didn't think it was going to happen... :p

Just had time for a couple of quick pics. I'll try to post more after I've had a chance to give it a good cleaning.

These are really cool if you reload. Pre-panic, .44 mag factory stuff was $35/box. I bought a 6.5 inch 629 strictly as a reloading gun; it's never seen a factory round. I can load hardcast for about eight bucks. And I can make the loads do anything, from 750 fps target powderpuffs, up to anti-Grizzly loads.

Nice Magnum

I think this was meant to happen for you. Good for you. I like the gun and would like to have a similar shooter some day soon. Enjoy.

Well done! I'm constantly surprised at how items get bid up very high early on with lots of days to go. You got yourself a great revolver to enjoy at the range or whatever role it'll play for you, congrats!

I don't see a thing wrong with that revolver, it's beautiful.

Looks just fine to me. Ya done good! :D

I've had that happen to me twice. Put in the minimum bid at the beginning of the auction and there were no more bids.

Don't you just hate when you accidentally buy a revolver, it happened twice to me this year. Very nice 29 I'm jealous.

I do load for .44mag, it's actually the first cartridge I loaded for when I started reloading in the early 1980s...

I'm very fond of a 240gr hard cast at ~1000fps, which is something you can't seem to buy. Most factory .44 mag is way too hot to be much fun to shoot.

Very nice. I had a nice 29-3 shooter I let get away like a dummy. Getting it replaced is on the list.

Interesting, I'm doing some stainless race car exhaust work in my gun shop too. Or is it gun work in the race shop? Depends on the day, I suppose.

That's my garage workbench, and it is a turbo downpipe for our Miata racecar. I do some TIG, but this is not my work; it's produced by a shop in Bulgaria of all places... :p

This exactly. I load AA#5 behind 240 grain hardcast to about 1000 or 1050 fps. I didn't find a published load so I extrapolated from .45 Colt (new loaders don't try this at home!).

Good looking model 29-2 for a shooter. You did well. I have a 29-3 that looks about the same for bluing condition and I don't feel embarassed by the gun at all.

I too bought a gun with a skinny Hunter belt. Hunter was able to match a new less skinny belt for me.

I would have bought that.
Collector grade 29 on the list.

Had to have a 29, dash did not matter. Bought a -3 on G.B. It came with earlier target stocks. These are era correct. I don't shoot it much. Rather shoot 45 Colt. Bob

I owned one similar and let it get away. Shot mostly 7.5 Unique with a 240gr SWC Keith style lead on top. Great 100 yd accuracy. A heavy diet of full magnums will loosen it up but I expect you know that.
