Anyone try using the 5% off discount code ASC2011 shown in the Optics Planet ad on the forum homepage? I intended to make a purchase using the link from this site and got the following message...

Important Message
We're sorry, but we didn't recognize the promotional claim code you entered. Perhaps you typed it incorrectly or you are trying to use a code that's not valid for the items you're buying?

Has anyone else had this problem?

I've not had that problem. On the other hand, I no longer trade at Optics Planet. Every order I have ever placed with this outfit has been back ordered. That irks me and I will not do business with them.

Seriously, my experience has been the same as Out West. Every order I have placed with them has been put on backorder and I had to call and cancel. What a pain!

Had a back order recently that didn't work out and was frustrating, but also made 2 other recent purchases with them and no problems.
 
Wow. I order from them all the time and haven't had a single issue. Thanks for the warning.
 
They will rip you sooner or later. I ordered two Aimpoints and mounts. They charged my card and then back ordered for over four months. My second and last try was a Leupold scope for my son for Christmas. I called and ordered Leupold scope caps with the scope and was "assisted" by a customer service rep so I would get the correct caps. They sent the wrong size and told me to send them back with a return authorization. They forgot to mention they were going to charge me $20 for a restocking fee for them sending the wrong item. I spoke to several customer service reps including a supervisor and was basically told to pound sand. They could care less that they sent the wrong item. Never again.

Black Sheep, I just checked coupon code ASC2011, and it works just fine on OpticsPlanet. The error code you displayed isn't one of ours, so it's possible you entered it on another website. ASC2011 is only good on OpticsPlanet, and not Ebay or Amazon, though we do sell some items through those marketplaces. If you continue to have problems, PM me and I'll look into it further for you.

For those who have had an item back ordered, we have a huge warehouse and try to keep as many items in stock as possible, but it does happen that an item sells out, especially around the holidays. We're constantly growing and hope our expanded warehouse will keep some of these issues to a minimum. We don't like back orders any more than you, and we're working hard to make improvements.

akviper, I'd like to look into your order to see what happened. We don't charge a credit card on back orders until the items are ready to ship, so this shouldn't have happened. If you could PM me your order number I'll take a look and see what happened. Our representatives go through a lot of training before they're allowed to assist customers, so if someone is giving inaccurate information I'll definitely make sure they don't make the same mistake again.

I hope those who have had bad experiences with us will give OpticsPlanet another chance. Everyone here strives to make sure your purchase goes through without a hitch. You can PM me or email us at [email protected] and we'll bend over backwards to make your day a little better.

I have made several purchases from them, all without problem.
Will continue to buy from them unless I experience repeated problems because no business is exempt from an occasional screw up.

Thanks for the reply Brian, IIRC I used the Amazon.com checkout option on your site which explains why the code wouldn't work. Regardless, I made my purchase and just got my order confirmation today. I have a few $15 off promo codes too but my order didn't meet the minimum purchase requirement. Oh well, I will continue to purchase from Optics Planet because your pricing and free shipping are very attractive...
 
Brian, I have purchased many items from OpticsPlanet and overall have had no problems, although now if I'm considering something that I need in a hurry I always call and check availability.

Do you have any plans to update your site to indicate if an item is in stock or not?

The reason I ask this is that many times I won't even bother calling and will order from another company that does let me know if what I am looking for is available. For all I know you may have had it in stock and I would have ordered from OP if not for the phone call aspect of it all.......

I would be willing to bet that your business would increase if you let people know if an item was available, or, if not, how long they could expect it to be on backorder. I do know you would get more of my business.
 
I just placed an order today for eyeglass frames and the code worked. Kudos to Brian from Opitics Planet to post here and offer to "make things right"
