Greetings all,
I have been told that at one time S & W offered an "optional high polish" on revolvers and I was hoping someone might be able to tell me whether or not this is true and if so during what period this option was available.
Some revolvers I have seen do seem to have a superior polish but I have previously assumed this was due to being produced earlier or being kept better.

Some models cataloged as being available in S&W blue only could be special ordered in bright blue or nickel at extra cost. This is true for the 1950 Target 44, for example.

I have a pair of 1950 44 Target Models made a few months apart in 1955. One is subdued blue and the other is bright blue. Both are lettered and neither letter mentions anything other than "blue finish."

Of course some models were always in bright blue, like the 357s, the 44 Magnums and the Combat Magnums as examples.
