Original Dash One (-1) Picture Thread

I would really like to see the aforementioned 14-1 4" pinto if original from the factory that way.

There are some fine gun in here, I checked and I only have one -1 and it has had a brother already showed. Here goes:

This 24-1 shipped in 1966, 3 years after the Model 24 ceased to be catalogued. It was made up from parts for Dick Marble, owner of American Firearms Warehouse. It letters and probably is the only one that will ever surface but one never knows for certain with S&W

Chuck, Did you buy that 24-1? FABULOUS gun- probably the last Mod 24 ever shipped, not counting, of course, the later Mod 24-3's, since they are not real guns, not having pinned barrels....

Hold your tounges- JUST KIDDING!

Anyway, to reiterate a bit on Dash-Ones:
ONLY Carbon Steel(Blue & Nickel) K and N frames count in the spirit of this discussion.
Stainless guns don't count- the Dash-1 means SOMETHING ELSE.
J frame Models don't count- the Dash-1 means SOMETHING ELSE. There are 10's of thousands of the J frame Dash-1's.
L frame Models don't count- the Dash-1 means SOMETHING ELSE.

Here is a 15-1 for ya:

This is the only KNOWN USAF Model 15 that is marked "U.S." only- they are usually marked "U.S.A.F.".

Lee, no, some other collector snatched up the 24-1. I wasn't willing to pay that much for it. The 15-1 is neat and all this discussion recently about Air Farce, sorry FORCE,(a little in-bred intra-service rivalry)

has got me wondering about what Army MPs carried at the same time and if they were similarly marked? I'm guessing the standard 1911, but that's only a guess on my part. I do remember having over 350 of those, along with numerous M3s, , 81mikes, M14s, M16s, CAR15s, M60s, 50Cals and even 5 TSMG in our very typical Infantry Bn arms room back in 1972. We even had a few Chicom AKs for demo purposes out on Peason Ridge on N. Ft Polk. Those were the days...

Until the transition to the new M-9 Beretta's the Army used the 1911A1 as the standard sidearm for Guard Duty in such places as Gates, etc. None of the various "Issue" Revolvers were used by Guard details; as these were issued to Pilots, pretty much exclusively. I don't know of any other "use" for the Issue Revolvers other than by some of the CID personnel.

Around fixed installation Guard areas; such as warehouses and buildings, guards were generally armed with Shotguns or whatever the current "Issue Rifle" was.

I know that currently the Gate Guards are armed with the M-9s but also have one of the various versions of the M-16 sitting within fairly easy reach.

Thread resurrection

Any add'l "-1's" to add to the checklist? Anybody looking for a good place to show off the pictures of the 28-1 they just found at the local pawnshop? :)

Neat thread.

Took some pics of the 57-1 tonight; noticed it is not listed yet on page one. Will have to download tomorrow and post them, along with a few 14-1 pics. They may be too dark. May need a light and time to retake them.

If my eyes are not just tired tonight, the 57-1 inside the crane was marked 571. Tried to see a dash, but know the 1 is there. It is a blue 4" .41 magnum. Anyway, the day has been long with no rest and we shall soon see. Maybe it is a mis-stamp.?

edit: The book shows the 57-1 was made starting 1982 and the dash two around 1988, with the nickels stopped around 1986. They shouldn't be that rare at all. The N serial numbers match around that era, too.

But my faves are the K-38s. First is one with incorrect grips, though some of my favorites, that purportedly was one of six on a specific shooting team at a military camp. Have yet to take the time to try and document that claim. Still great story. The second is another 8 3/8" in much better condition concerning the finish. The third is a minty 14-1 six inch. Please excuse the poor quality pics. The 14-1 trio I am fortunate enough to care for awhile:
