I picked up the OD yesterday and soaked it over night in Ed's Red. It wasn't to bad internally but the oil had pretty much turned to varnish.

When I picked it up the LGS owner and I were looking it over, we had just taken the stocks off to check the numbers and I asked him to read them to me as I looked at the butt. He told me he couldn't read them without a magnifying glass so I just read them myself.

A few minutes later he says to me that this one isn't as nice as the one I got from him a couple of months ago because it had been reblued. I asked him how he came to that conclusion, because the roll marks look soft he says. I burst out laughing and said and this is coming from a guy that just couldn't read the Ser# on the stocks. He keep insisting he was right so I just dropped it and headed home.

The OD is in nice shape as far as I'm concerned and I'm 98% certain is hasn't be reblued. There's a little flecking on side plate and very little muzzle wear.

I'll post up some close ups of the detail and anyone here can tell me if they think it's a reblue and for the price I paid it wouldn't matter.

NOT reblued.

Thanks Lee. I'm pretty sure the LGS was just a little embarrassed due price difference between the one I bought from them and this one so he decided to bad mouth it.
I was willing to pay more for the one I got from them because it is a first month issue with the gold bead. This one is four years newer with the stainless bead.

As you know, I saw this one in person, and it isn't reblued. And, you got it at a decent price. I'll let you know when the next auction is.
Thanks, I had very little doubt that is wasn't the original bluing but just wanted to put that out there.
Yes I got the OD at a decent price and the 29-6 wasn't to badly priced either, as a matter of fact a friend of mine has already offered to buy the 29-6 for what I paid for it.

Where are you guys shopping? Looks like a really nice OD.

That one was actually a first for me H Richard had told me about a auction near him. I could have driven there because it isn't that far but they have live online bidding so I registered got a paddle number and bought two revolvers from the comfort of my shop. The only down side was sitting through a hundred sales before they got to what I wanted, but really they bidding went very quickly.

My moderately trained eye sees no refinish evidence. Doesn't even look like the side plate has been off.

I took the side plate off yesterday before soaking it and honestly that may have been the first time it was off.
The internals weren't rusty or anything like that but the old oil had turned to varnish and I had to whack the frame repeatedly with a rubber mallet to get it loose.

Andy, you had to whack it repeatedly with a rubber mallet because you were whacking it with a rubber mallet. Assuming your rubber mallet has a wooden handle, whack it with that-------it'll deliver all of the whack----won't dampen any of it.

If your local hardware store has one inch wooden dowel rods (or even larger), get one of those, and cut off a piece about a foot long-----first rate whackers!!

Thanks Ralph, actually I have a piece of dowel rod that I use on my bullet molds that would serve that purpose I just didn't think about using it because the mallet was on the work bench.
