Hey guys just got on the forum today. Went this morning and purchased a new SD9. Pick it up Thursday. Of course have read tons of reviews and checked out your forum for awhile. Doesn't look like this weapon has to many major problems so I bought one. Got to spend a whole 20 minutes or so checking it out at the gun shop. Broke it down and looked at the insides. Just have one big question. When pulling back the slide is it suppose to feel like it's full of sand??? This is really my second semi-auto the last which I just sold was an old Hi-Point and it was smooth as a babies bottom when you pulled back the slide. Just asking, appreciate any feed back. I've noted some "grittiness" when racking my 40. I never really noticed till I handled a friends Para. Afterwards it was very evident. It does not affect the action or accuracy of the gun so I've attributed it to the diff between an $300 gun and a $1300 gun.

Had my SD9VE since 8-2-2014. App. 700 rounds through mine so far. I've never noticed any grittiness in mine and haven't had any issues with functioning. Make sure you break it down for cleaning and lube as per manual. Once you get it apart, you may find what is causing it to feel gritty-manufacturing debris, dirt, etc. After you start putting rounds through it and dry firing, things will start to smooth out-at least mine has.

Thanks for the replies guys. Will be breaking it down to clean, oil and find whats causing that gritty operation. Have seen a couple videos on youtube where the trigger assy is taken apart and rough edges and surfaces are smoothed out. Has anyone here done any of those things to their SD? Again thanks much. It's all relative. A SIG or CZ with full rails will glide like a dream. The polymer/striker guns with their four small tabs instead of full frame rails have always been rough in comparison. That will smooth out some with use but it will never feel like a gun with full rails.

Welcome to the forum.

No telling if the store ever cleans theirs.
A proper cleaning and lubing will do wonders.
Always clean mine first, then oil and apply a slight amount of grease to the rails wiping off excess. Then rack the slide multiple times.
