Just talked to Pearce Grips this morning to cancel an order for a Taurus PT 709 extension that I was going to modify for my Shield 9mm. I canceled because after ordering the Pearce product, I discovered the new NDZ extension for the Shield - so I ordered them instead.

The folks at Pearce Grips advised me that they will be releasing their grip extension designed specifically for the Shields next week, the first week of December.

It's about time. Too bad they waited so long.

I've got one of the NDZ "pinkie" extensions and I like it a lot. My fingers fit well between the trigger guard and the extension, just on the verge of tight. However, if you have "sausage fingers" they may not have enough room.

That's good news on the Pearce extension. Looking forward to seeing it.

I don't get it. How is a pinkie extension better than the extended mag, which gives you an extra round to carry. Or are you guys planning on putting the extension on the extended mag? I don't begrudge anybody doing whatever they want to their guns I just don't see a pinkie extension being any easier to conceal than the extended mag.

I carry the weapon at the 3 to 4 o'clock position with a forward cant. That means that the back side of the magazine is the part that is most likely to poke out. The pinkie side is not a major factor with respect to concealment, but it is a big factor in the stability of my grip when firing the weapon.

For my hand size, my pinkie slips nicely under the grip with the standard floor plate on the 7rd mag, but I get a partial pinkie purchase with the 8rd mag. I sense more control of the weapon when my pinkie has something to squeeze besides just air.

I currently have a modified PT 709 extension on both my 7rd and 8rd mags. I cut down the extension of the one on the 8rd mag so there is just enough to give my pinkie a full grip. That provides me with the same grip feel when using either of the mags.

I too am excited by the news and spoke to the this week and was told they should be shipped next week. Offered to drive over to Ft Worth to pick them up but they declined that offer, LOL.

Not a big fan of the 8 round magazines but do like the feel of the 7 rounders and look forward to the extensions.

So far I don't see it on their web site  Guess we will have to see after next week

I'm looking forward to seeing it, too. I called them a few weeks ago about it, and at that time it sounded more like early next year - glad to see they moved it up.

I e-mailed Pearce today and they said it will be available on Dec.9.
MSRP $9.95 - Product I.D. PG-MPS

Guess I have sausage fingers, because the NDZ extension comes to the middle of my pinkie on my 7 round magazine, and it is sharp! So I put it on the 8 round mag instead, and find it comfortable on that one.

I think I must have sausage fingers too! I got two of the NDZ extensions and now have one on my 8 round mag. It is a perfect fit for my hand size on that mag, but on the 7 round mag, it is rather tight.

I checked with Pearce this week and they are hoping to have their Shield extension out by about the middle of the month now. Seems that the extensions are textured and the person that did the texturing for their molds is no longer available so they are having to find another source. Soon as that is complete, they will start production.

I am hoping that their Shield extension is similar to the dimensions of their PT709 one that I modified for my Shield. That one worked perfectly for me on the 7 round mag.

If so, then between NDZ and Pearce, I will have my needs covered.

I want to see pics.:)

OK, so here are some pics comparing the NDZ extension on the 7-rd mag vs. the 8-rd mag.

First, the 7-rd mag:

For what it's worth, I wear size "Large" gloves. As you can see, the extension works much better for me on the 8-rd mag. But . . . most people would be buying the extension for the 7-rd mag.

(Sorry about the large size of the photos. I tried re-sizing them but either they were this size in the post or really small.)

An additional advantage I found for the NDZ pinkie ledge is the added grasping surface you get when drawing the pistol from a holster.

This is very similar to my sub compact "baby GLOCK" and the GAP magazine base plates I have for it. It affords a much better purchase during the draw from my holster. Additionally, my grip position on the gun is also more consistent when drawing.

I would like to try 1/2 of these. I have the NDZ and like them very much.
I have one with matching logo on the firing pin cover. I did not think about putting the NDZ on my 8 rnd mags. I may try this.

LenC, Did you apply the red dot with a toothpick. It is perfectly round. How did you do it? Looks great.

I did the same thing with a painters pen you can get at Hobby Lobby or model store. It looks like he may have drilled a small indent on the safety and applied some red paint with a needle to fill in. I didn't want to drill a hole so I just used the painters pen (one tap) perfectly round as well and let dry. In fact it shouldn't rub off as the safety lever clears the area without rubbing? I'm sure there are other looks like painting the top half square etc.
