Penetrating oil

I have had such success with Kroil that I would not mess with anything containing Acetone. Kroil has never failed me yet - and the ONLY complaint I have is it SMELLS bad! Unless I've got no choice on the matter, I use it outdoors. If I HAVE TO use it inside I open all the windows in my Workshop area. Other than that - it's a FANTASTIC product!

I HAVE TO ROLL WITH chief 38. KROIL IS MY GO TO PENETRATING OIL......

ACETONE AND ATF MAY WORK FASTER, BUT I WOULD RATHER EXERCISE A BIT OF PATIENCE, ALLOWING THE KROIL TO DO ITS JOB......

I AM VERY RELUCTANT TO INTRODUCE ACETONE, INTO MY WORKSHOP ENVIRONMENT......

I use Kroil to dissolve surface rust and as a penetrating oil. Ed's Red is used to clean bores and chambers. BTW, don't know when Ed came along, but I have a paper that accompanied a colt firearm from late 20's that detailed what is now Ed's Red. Can't remember exact working, but said if bore cleaner was not available, you could mix up this receip. Only Sperm whale oil was used instead of ATF.

I keep a little plastic tub with a few inches of diesel in it and I immerse my S&W's come cleaning time. A small thin rag and diesel soaked patches do wonders. Nothing else makes bluing look any better and the gleam lasts a while. I blow them off with an air hose afterwards then wipe down.
