Pepper Spray

I have tried so many times to get myself to carry pepper spray and I just cannot bring myself to do it. I carry the tiniest gun I can, keys, wallet, and phone, that is all. Anything more is a hassle, unless I am going to Cleveland, then I will bring my hand cannon and deal with the discomfort.

I get what people say in being able to de-escalate, or have a non-lethal response to a threat that may not be justified in shooting, but it is just another thing to stuff into my pockets and it is a bridge too far for me in spite of those logical arguments for carrying spray.

YMMV but for me, I want to carry the least amount of things possible.

If you have to use your gun to defend yourself, your gun will be taken away and your pockets will be emptied. And your wallet might be a lot lighter too.

But hey, at least you won't have too much in your pockets right? :D:D:rolleyes::eek:

You will need a gun if a homeless crazy guy with a knife corners you. So you are bringing pepper spray to a knife fight?

Now as a cop I got a Radio Call that security guards needed help with a trespasser. Well the trespasser had pepper spray (he had stolen from a car he burglarized). When Security attempted to chase him off the trespasser pepper sprayed them.

Of course not. Stupid question.

I guess maybe I need to explain "de-escalation" to you?

That would be stupid of me now wouldn't it?

A co-worker had to defend himself with a gun.

None of those things happened.

I guess a lot of it depends on what state you live in.

I brought OC to an ax fight one morning. I'm not sure "Won" is the right word but the crackhead dropped the ax

I've said this before but I had people DARE me to shoot them multiple times but when the OC came out it was "Yes Sir, Officer (their word not mine) Sir. I'm leaving right now."

Not one time ever did anyone challenge me on the spray

What....no flashlight? :D

I'd ditch everything else first before the flashlight

1. The likelihood you need pepper spray is about as remote as needing a gun.

2. most threats warranting pepper spray are already to the point where using a gun is at least arguable, if not outright justifiable depending on your state.

3. You can carry a million things if you like and jingle like a Christmas tree, I prefer not to.

I've said this before but if I had to pick one or the other I would choose spray. Spray is applicable across a wider range of circumstances than a gun is.

Spray as much less bulky than a gun, when I worked for G4S they issued us a can of saber red pepper gel that was about the size of a shot glass. You can buy a can of pepper spray that's the size of a Bic lighter.

I said this before a bunch of times. I said it in the post right before yours. I've had people dare me to shoot them just because they saw the gun on my belt. I've had people tell me that they were going to take my gun away and beat my *** with it. People tell me my gun wasn't real People tell me that my gun wasn't loaded. This isn't exactly applicable but I've had client employees question why I needed a gun at all.

None of that has ever happened to me in regards to OC. I've said this before a bunch of times, I don't know why but it seems to me that people don't really believe that you'll shoot them but but they absolutely believe that you will spray them.

You Do You Boo

If going for a walk in my neighborhood, a ranchette community, especially if with my grandbaby, I take spray and a gun. My concern is more for dogs, and the concern is very real and valid. I'd prefer to spray so as to cause the least trauma to the grandbaby but if alone I consider any loose aggressive attack dogs very shootable.

Many good comments here the value of carrying pepper spray even when carrying. I agree it is a smart thing to do in a legal since. Should a self defense shooting incident occur, the courts (most likely there will be one) will see the shooting in a more favorable light if pepper spray was first attempted to defuse whatever the threatening situation was, before deadly force was necessary.
