Today I called the offices of both my senators, Mark Warner and newly elected Tim Kaine. Instead of taking the first option and leaving a message I hit the button to talk to a staff member.

In both instances I got a respectful response for my input (that I opposed new gun control legislation but was in favor of putting law enforcement in the schools).

I'm thinking that those two calls MAY be more effective than the emails I've sent - at least I hope so. I did my level best to make my point in a reasonable and sincere way, stressing that I was interested in something that might actually reduce the chances of another Newtown rather than a useless restriction of the Second Amendment that would not increase the safety of the schools.

I think the extra time spent waiting for and speaking to the staffers was time well spent.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Bravo to you Sir.

Emails (particularly form emails that are all the same) are easy to ignore or have auto-responders set up. Phone calls take time and effort to respond to and get their attention.
