phone geeks or leo, how is this possible?

Believe it or not - he did! I don't recall ever hearing Dad use the type of language that is so common today. And I'm sure I gave him at least a few opportunities to do so. :o

Devices for cloning the landline ID of others are quite prevalent. There is a phone scam going on right now using the number of a company from Boston and they are pretty PO'd about it.

Just last week my newspaper was stolen.

feralmerril what's your phone number????:D

Seriously, I hope it all works out for you.

Thanks! I doubt I will hear anymore. Common sense finaly tells me no DA would prossicute. Why would a woman drive 4 or 6 miles across town to steal my newspaper, how would I reconise her, how would I know her number, if she stold it wouldnt she be able to drive the cop to the house, couldnt the cop check the newspaper office to see that I dont get a subscription, they didnt take me up on my offer of haveing her call me with a cop on each end to see if she could reconise my voice. Besides, my wife was with me the entire time and told the cop so.
I am confident now were they to prosicute, I could blow the redicules charge out of the water. What does bug me is was this two wires crossing or does some old enemy have it in for me? While I am sure I could beat a charge, bail and lawyer money aint cheap! Also I could have lost my collection and ccw!
I know it wont happen, but I if they arent going to prosicute, give me a courtisey call and say so!

Don't count on them not prosecuting, common sense doesn't normally enter into those decisions. You can bet your bottom dollar they are continuing the investigation and trying to get more evidence, with their focus on you (you are the easiest target, especially since your phone number was in the caller ID). Stay aware, and don't volunteer anything to the police, they are not your friend in this situation, their job is to build a case that will support charges and result in a conviction, same with the prosecutor. Especially in a small town, where they don't have a lot of crime to deal with, they may spend an inordinate amount of time on such a case and pursue you with a surprising level of prejudice. Common sense doesn't enter into the equation - think "Officer Opie" in the Arlo Guthrie song "Alice's Restaurant." Also, considering your location, if you are not in a group with the right connections, the odds are stacked against you from the get-go. Same situation in NE Arizona. Good luck to you, hope they don't make any more problems for you, but stay aware and guarded.

On a more pleasant note, I saw the pics of your Citabria on another thread, sure looks good, nice to see some progress made!

310 pilot, I know exactly what you mean. Thats my wifes 1st suspicion too.

You need to realize NONE of that logical stuff matters.

It doesn't matter if she stole a paper.
It doesn't matter if you subscribe to the paper.
It doesn't matter if you know who she is.

All that matters is a woman says you called her and threatened her life.
Her caller ID shows your number.
The cops can assume you make random calls and threaten people to terrorize them with no real reason involved.

You have denied it.
That is enough.
Quit suggesting ANY possible explanation to them beyond the caller ID being wrong or phonied up.
See if you can talk to a lawyer briefly and just get some advice without retaining him/her at this point.

Who knows? This might be a shakedown. ;)

for as easy as it is to do the phone thing, you didn't cut somebody of on the interstate did you. even though you have been retired for a while, don't discount any old enemies either. good luck to you.

This has been bothering me since you first posted it.......
This could happen to ANYONE -- Ya never know!
Any updates?

Well, I am still loose and plan on staying that way. Yesterday I just received a accounting of the calls I made at the time in question. No calls from our phone that we couldnt explain shown!
My neighbor owns a alarm company here and is a electrical wizzard. I told him about it, he came in the house with his cell phone and demostrated in 5 minuets the exact same thing useing a FREE computer web site he brought up and punched in the numbers!
Thanks guys, I wont say the police wont be back, but I am totaly confident I can blow away any attempt of proveing me guilty. I just dont want to invest in a lawyer unless I have to.

feralmerril, if i was in you're situation i would change my number and keep it unlisted,

If this was 15-50 years ago I wouldnt be surprised. I havent had a enemy or done anybody harm that I can recall in the last dozzen years. Been retired almost 12 years. We moved here almost 7 years ago from 425 miles away, didnt know a soul. We get along with everyone here we met.
We live very modestly, visualy dont have much of anything to make one jealous, I dont want anyone`s wife or girl friend. This has got to be a fluke. I am of course currious if this was a random picked number with no connection or if it was picked on purpose. I am getting locking gas caps!
