Did anybody see it last night on Discovery? It was pretty sensationalized, but showed a pretty accurate picture of how dog hunters in South Georgia operate, although several of the "catch" scenes were filmed in a pen. If you looked closely, you could see the wire in a couple of the scenes. Abbeville, GA, where a lot of it was filmed, is about 60 miles South of me, not too far off I-75.

The most hilarious thing about the whole show was the fact that the show's producers evidently felt like they had to use sub-titles when the redneck good old boys were talking. Really, it was like watching one of the old Japanese monster movies! I guess they figured the Yankees couldn't understand good old Southernese any better than they can Japanese.

Yeah, I saw that drivel . . . the voice over sounded like the clown that does the commentary for "Monster-quest", you know, that show where they travel all over the world in search of evidence of terrible, other-worldly phenomenal creatures and never find anything ? Monster hogs are taking over the world !

No doubt, the hog population is an ecological disaster waiting in the wings as far as them decimating an environment and chasing out other animals. I'm just waiting for some vapid Hollywood air-head with more silicone than brains to take up 'protecting the hogs' as a cause celebre'.

Of course, the cure is to declare them vermin with a year round hunting season with a bounty and "hunters for the hungry" drop off process stations strategically placed in every other town. Maybe we can get some stimulus money headed in that direction, along with ammo and reloading supply subsidies for those who can show they are putting it to use culling hogs. After all, it is for the environment.

I liked that Pig Bomb show, though I found it campy. I think that it was first on a couple months back, but showed up with no advertising or fan fare. I think that I posted about it at the time, which elicited some interesting killer pig related anecdotes.

Monster Quest did indeed do an episode on killer pigs as well.

People eat pigs, pigs eat people... circle of life I suppose.

I watched it for 30 min and all I could stand. Amazing there are no photos of true Russian Boars ( according to the MC)

Also surprise, surprise American hogs are crossed with Russian strain ??. Heck hog outfitter have been advertising Russian hog hunts in the US as long as I can remember.

I loved the repeat footage of the one "Hold dog" with his chest protector not hooked up

I took a hog in East Tennessee a few years ago. It was fit to eat, but that's about all.

They are not afraid of you. They will run at you. It's mighty hard to hit one coming at you. The one I took weighed 245 lbs.

Took it with a Super Blackhawk. Missed the 1st 2 shots, the third one put it down.

Back at that time, I couldn't afford a M29......Early 70's

Here in Oklahoma we have no season. No game laws apply because they are not considered a game animal. The game wardens hate them as much, if not more than the farmers and they say shoot every one you see, take 'em home or leave them for the buzzards, possums and coyotes, they don't care. We can even hunt them at night but have to get a "permit" which is basically permission from the local warden. It's usually not hard at all. Hunting anything at night does have some firearm restrictions that come from the general hunting regs. That's where the permission comes in.

Used to hunt near a pig farm years ago. I guess pigs would escape now and then and go wild. I shot one that weighed in at around 400lbs. Darn thing chased me up onto a large rock. It couldn't climb the rock fast enough to get me before I shot it point blank in the head with a 12ga slug. Pig be gone! Didn't see the show but I know those things shouldn't be roaming around free in the wild.

The behavior Windjammer described, was exactly how I found them to behave there as well.
