Pistols with a shot at replacing the M9

Good point. You can get a 30 round magazine for the Glock. :D

This seems like a more viable candidate :D

-the article states that "many soldiers reengage the decoking lever when raking the slide"....yeah, that is what training is for: you find a deficiency and train a workable solution...sorry there I go again..../QUOTE]

Well, if a decocking DA/SA without a manual safety is already good enough (Sig 228/M11), how 'bout we just go to a 92G slide? Problem solved mechanically, 'cause sometimes you just can't train some folks.... I've tried too many times:rolleyes:

I can't believe this thread has gone this far and nobody has said go back to the 1911 .45. They should be able to get them cheap, since every gun company makes them now.

I think the American made way is the way to go. Only problem I can see is that with a polymer gun, you cant beat anyone with it.

I can't believe anyone would even remotely consider a striker fired gun for a military application. I have seen a LOT of glocks not set off certain types of military ammo. My 2 cents go to the Sig P229 in .40 In my mind it has everything going for it in terms of a go anywhere do anything gun. Stainless/Aluminum makes it practically inpervious to the elements, 12 round capacity of a caliber that will do everything a .45 will, ergonomic frame that fits most hands, oversized trigger guard for use with gloves...the list goes on.
As for US manf, the 229 is half built in the US.

LOL...well that is very true....but I also believe that whether in a war zone or here at home: SOME PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE ARMED:eek:

Wasn't broke.....but some bean counting jellyroll decided to fix it anyway...
GO BACK to the 1911....my 9 year old grand kids can handle it just fine....as can my 55 yr. old bride....and my 92 yr. old dad can still make a showing with his....
It works....requires a minimum of tlc....just like a pocketknife, a rifle, a hummvee, or a Striker...
It served with honor and distinction for close to a century....We've tried the rest now let's go BACK to the best.....Just look at the calls for M-14's in the various theaters.....
When did we replace Marksmanship Training with Weapon Familerazion(sp)......

Just off the top of my head, the answer is simple. If the focus is a manageable grip size, capacity, power, etc., they need to pick the .40 S&W and issue the Glock 22.
Nope. Grip size is Glock's biggest problem, IMO. And some men and almost all women have smaller hands than I do.

"USA made weapons period." I'd go one step further. U.S. made weapons chambered in the most effective caliber possible regardless of if it suits nato, now, etc. If someone doesn't have a large enough hand to handle the grip, let them adapt. But use a weapon in a caliber that will get the job done and not try to come up with some design that will satisfy a small group, etc.
The 1911 will fit almost anybody, and very few folks complain that the caliber is too small. Anyone who can't design a gun that fits most folks' hands (like the 1911 already does) should find some other line of work.

I say bring back the alloy frame P90 but with a 5" barrel.;)

I personally believe that EVERY boot on the ground in a combat zone irregardless of rank should be packing a rifle. Pistols are usually regarded like having a radioman next to you...a badge of rank and a bullet magnet for everyone who thinks he/she is a sniper.

That being said, I believe in the old Victorian practice of letting a soldier make his/her own choice in regards to handguns provided they fire service-issue ammunition. Remember, pistols are really for fighting your way to something more substancial in a warzone. IMHO, it should be left in the same theory as a field knife....it's your backside...your money...and extra weight you will have to carry.

Those who don't want to carry their own and they have an MOS/Billet that requires a handgun then since there is a ton of M9's/M10's just leave as is. FTR I am not a fan of the Berretta simple due to size for the round issues...there are better high capacity 9's out there.

Way to much brass overhead also. Isn't the M9 built in Md? Wouldn't Beretta lay off those workers?

I agree. Beretta is made in the US along with the FN produced m16a2/3/4, m240 and m249.The only times during the 8 years I spent as an Infantrymen in the 1980 burning through ammo was before the new fiscal year. The NRA had a good article on marksmanship training in the spring and they touched on the lack of range time.
