Please help my old eyes on my Shield's front sight

My middle aged eyes may be playing tricks on me. My Shield's front sight appears a bit off from center but I'd like some fresh eyes to tell me I'm right or wrong.

My calipers have been effective in hiding from me currently but hopefully a few pics can help decide if a trip to a gunsmith is necessary.

It appears to me to be slightly right of center. How does it shoot? It may be fine right where it is.

It shoots left by a few inches from average range of 20 feet. I feel every trip is an exercise in technique: always room for improvement LOL. I prefer to blame user error first then consider other possibilities that can compound the issue (trigger mechanics, sight alignment, etc).

Definitely needs to be drifted to the left a bit.

Looks like it's to the right a little to me too. Like others said see how it shoots and if your groups are consistently off then adjust the sight.

By the way if you have trouble seeing the front sight while you're shooting you might want to try what I did. I put orange fingernail polish on the front sight of my M&P 40c and it helps. I didn't cover up the night sight...just put some around it on the flat part of the front sight. Makes it much easier for my eyes to pick it up quickly in daylight.

If you are shooting to the left move the front sight a little to the left. You will need a vise, hammer , and a 1/4 inch by 3 inch long flat headed BRASS bolt from homedepot. Google front sight on shield on Youtube....

Ole Joe Clark, I know what you mean about the eyes. I have the Shield with the crimson trace green laser, works great. Mine came from Smith with installed.

If you drift the sight, use a light oil on the base and let it sit for a few minutes before you start moving it. It moves easier wth the oil.

That was my solution too. Great laser product.

First pic it looks fine. Next two maybe a bit to the right. Often the lighting, way the gun is held, etc. will make things look off center. I have the same optical delusions at times. If you really want to know, measure with calipers. If it shoots fine I wouldn't worry about it.

Regards.

It appears to my even older eyes that the front sight on my 40C is slightly to the right of center, too. My son's much younger eyes agree but nevertheless the gun is accurate or I should say accurate enough given my age, lol.

My very first shot was dead center of the bull. It went downhill from there, lol. (but not much)

I had to move the rear sight on my 40 full size when I got it. It was a police trade in and was off to the side some...shot that way too. Once I centered it, it shot dead on.

The reason I mention this is the rear sight is easier to move than the front sight, in my opinion. Just unscrew the screw and slide the sight. So if it's just a minor adjustment, you might want to consider that.

If you could loosen the set screw and slide the sight, you had a very rare gun. Most take very significant force to move. Perhaps someone had removed it previously and done an excess fitting job?
