Hello all....just got a S&W 442 for pocket carry. Its my first S&W revolver and am looking for some feedback. This will be my everyday carry weapon. I am considering a set of Crimson Trace laser grips (405 to be exact) and I'm curious to hear from the forum if the size of the 405's hinders pocket carry & will a speed loader work with them? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum mikagsd. I like the name. Reminds me of the mika pocket holster my 442 rides in, and my German Shepherd Dog.

I can't answer your question about the grips, but someone will be along shortly with loads of info for you. The 442 was an excellent choice for everyday carry by the way.

Find one on a display gun. Any J frame model with a Crimson Trace should be similar enough for comparison. You need to make sure your grip isn't too high to have a chance at blocking the laser. Some complain about this and its a pricey lesson to learn the hard way by lighting up a knuckle instead of your target.

Hi
I just got the 405 for my 442 last week. Its great! It helps with accuracy and tames the recoil.

No problem with pocket carry. Its basically the same size as the original grips.

Can't say about the speed loaders. I don't use them

Take a look at the 105 model, cheaper & smaller, I have one on a 642, it is great.

I've had the 405 on my 642 for a couple of years. It's a great grip for pocket carry. It has an on/off switch on it that the 105 doesn't so you can grip it normally and dry fire without having to wear down your batteries.

My wife added 2 1/2" to all my jean's pockets and if they are the loose fit type it is excellent for pocket carry.

Order a Mika pocket holster. You'll be glad you did. It takes a while to get one but it's worth thw wait. You can use something else while you wait for your Mika. BTW, I got the square and one of the round bottomed holsters so it fits all my pants.

Cashdog...lol, I have a German Shepherd & her name is Mika. Glad to see another GSD owner pick that up!

duntov...I noticed the smaller size of the 105 but I have shot my old man's 638 and I need something over the backstrap to reduce felt recoil and I don't think the 105 has the backstrap cover does it?

Maxim...thanks for the tip on the display dummy gun....I'll check when I go to the shop again. Thanks!

Yanici--I wear cargo shorts all the time...even when its 15 degrees outside so I think I should be okay as far as pocket depth goes. I would just be concerned that the 405 rubber grips would catch the material in the pocket on the draw.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

My first Shepherd's name was Cash. Yep, that's where my forum name came from as well. Couldn't have asked for a better companion for the almost 10 years that I had him. My new Shepherd is almost two now. An incredible dog in his own right, but I do have to remind myself on occasion that he's a totally different personality. He tends to be a little more hard-headed, and likes to try my patience. Either way, in my opinion, you won't find a better family dog. Take good care of Mika. They're never around as long as we'd like.

Here's a pic of my Model 60. Should answer your questions.

Ken-thanks for the pic. That gives me a good close up look of the rubber covering the backstrap. I know the CT site has the installation instructions posted there, did you find them hard to install?

Great gun. I've really liked my 442. I believe it to be an excellent pocket protector. I also like these Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel +P loads for it. I have large hands and find this grip is just fine with the pinky riding below the grip frame. Recoil is really nothing with this gun and load. 7yrds and rapid fire center mass shots are easy...just let the front sight rock back down on target and let her rip.

I've got some RWS speedloaders but need to try speed strips.

I've wanted a GS for years. The closest that our home/yard will allow are German Schnauzers.... :) They are fearless watchdogs but I do want a GS someday. Here is our latest. We bought her this summer. She's been the smartest dog I've ever had. Very intuitive.

I use the 405 grip in cargo shorts too. The rubber on the grip is and non-issue. It can't snag anything with your hand around it on the draw. Also, it doesn't really catch on the pocket fabric anyway.

I've been carrying the 442 with CT 405 grips in my right front pocket for a couple years. No issues with concealability. Recoil & followup shots are much easier with these grips than the standard boot grips.

I pocket carry a 442-2 with CT 405 grips in a Mika round bottom holster. I load it with the Speer 135 gr. Gold Dot Short Barrel +P ammo. No problem drawing, no problem with the speedloaders (Safariland).
