Pocket holster for 642?

MIKA

I've used the Mika for about six years. It stays put, draws clean and reholsters well.

Mika

Hello, coach 22....just read your post in regard to pocket holsters. I ordered the Mika in 2006. When I first stuck it in my pocket I thought
man this holster is just too big, and that was the end of that. I did not know that it would have to mould to the gun from carry.
Just went and got it out of the drawer and it is in my pocket w/my 642.
Will give it a try and see how it does.
In the post above your's ADP3 recommends the Uncle Mike's #4 instead of the #3 and that is what I bought when I thought the Mika was too big for the gun. Has been good for 4 yrs. but now needs to be replaced.
Thanks for your post re: the Mika.

I got a desanti nemisis first, which I used while waiting on my first Mika. The d.nemisis sits in the drawer now that the Mika is used. It's been going strong for years and I've now got my second as a backup. His website said something about less of a backlog, and the 2nd one didn't take as long. However long it takes, it's well worth the wait. He signs the holster - on the inside before final assembly I believe. Wrote my name in there along with the j-frame model I told him I'd primarily use it for - 342.

What about us fat *******s? I have been working hard to get healthy...quit smoking a month ago after 30+years (so far, so good) and now working on losing weight very seriously, but at 5'11'', 275 lbs, no IWB, OWB would really work. I would really like in-pocket, but I'm afraid at this point I'd have to have Jackie Gleason pants to pull it off. Do I just buy a big sport coat until I can conceal the 442 in a jeans front pocket?

Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on giving up the cancer sticks!

For pocket carry, it doesn't take as big of a pocket as you might think. Also, even though some don't like it, pocket carry in a vest (of some sort) is an option too.

I will have to add my $.02 concerning the Mika holsters. They work well. Short of making my own and that would be more work than I can to undertake. Call Mika.

I like the Tuff Products "Pocket-Roo"...conceals well and has a place to store a speed strip with a reload (which to me is essential if you're going to carry a 5-shot snub).

I've used Uncle Mike's over the years -- no more for their pocket holsters. They always come out on the draw for me. I like their IWB holsters, however.

I am currently using a DeSantis Nemesis. It's pretty good.
What works for me with the UM is to push the gun/holster slightly forward while drawing, that causes the top/front of the holster to drag against the inside of the pocket and remain behind like it should.

Takes a little practice but them works well, for me.
YMMV.

Thanks for Posting.....

I've been trying to decide on a pocket-holster for my 642.
The Nemesis is pretty darn good, but sometimes tries to come
out with the gun. With all the responses you've gotten about the Mika holster, I've decided to give him a try. Contacted him last night, and the wheels are turning!
Thanks for getting this well-read posting off to a good start, and
thanks to the helpful membes of the forum, TACC1.

I think the Mika is consistently the best low cost pocket holster. I haven't found a pocket holster that works best in all kinds of pants though. Some are too long (PocketRoo) and the grip peaks out in jeans, some are too narrow (Kramer) and roll sideways in large pockets and some don't release consistently. Typically I like the pocket holster to have -some- retention (Kramer, Ahern Pocket Natural) to keep the gun from slipping backwards out of the pocket when I sit as I have long legs. Thankfully I've got enough that I've tried over the years to be able to have one that works in whatever pockets I've got.

The Ross pocket-protector is a well made holster as well...Closed bottom, all leather...
