Mine are prescription polarized so not a name brand.
Agree with the grey as it seems to render true colors the best.

Bought a pair once that was listed as grey (Sears Optical so who knows whose lenses), but had an underlying red tint that was not visible until you were outside under bright sun, the reddish tint was noticiable and drove me nuts.

search around for sunglass hut coupons. I got my pair of the extra big ray ban polarized silver aviators (T1000 style) for just at $100.

Dear Senior,
Probably the best polarized lenses available are the G-17 lens from Ray-Ban as provided by the factory. If you need a perscription you will have to have your lenses dyed and whatever from the lab closest to you and it will never be the same. Often it will "fade" to a redish hue but it can be re-dyed. I'm no expert but I've gone thru all of the above. My next step might have to be "contacts" w/the factory shades... and I hate putting plates in my eyes!

I've got prescription "shades" in grey and brown, and for some reason, I actually prefer the brown ones; seems to make the greens of the grass and trees "brighter". Maybe like wearing rose colored glasses? I don't know, but I've had these lenses for nigh unto ten years (my prescription hasn't changed much/any since I got them), and this is the pair I always go back to. They're set in an aviator style frame that was popular then, went out of style a few years ago (and my kids made fun of me, of course), but it looks like aviators are starting to come back now? If you have an eye doctor you like, see if you can try some different shades/colors, and see what works best for you.

Out of the price range, but just so everyone knows they're made: Maui Jim sunglass/reading glasses. You get polarized sunglasses and bifocal reading glasses. Great for us oldies when we drive but can't really see the dashboard, etc. I was just shocked the first time I drove with them. The speedo and gauges looked the same as when I could still see!

I probably should have said in the OP that the glasses would be used for fishing only.

You might rethink the color choice. The amber or brown lens is really good in inshore water that isn't clear blue.

I agree with dave. Amber or brown is the way to go for most applications imho. I don't know about water, but that's what I use and prefer and consequently recommend. I slip on a pair of Serengeti amber and suddenly I can see clouds forming in the distance that weren't visible before. Works for me...

One of the best pair of sunglasses I ever bought came from a local gun/fishing shop.
I had a splitting headache, It was hot and sunny, I just had to get a pair of shades bad.
The name escapes me right now, But my Raybans/Smiths and Serengttis just dont filter glare better. I can see right through car windows like never bofore.
Stop in a really good fishing shop and get a good set,
I think I paid 50 bucks or so.

XXXXXXXX

I might just slide over to Bass Pro in Destin tomorrow after church and try on a few. Recon if I left a $100 bill on the counter they'd let me wear a pair out into the parking lot for a test??

I always wear Revo amber/brown sunglasses and they're great for driving and fishing. They cut glare while increasing contrast and I can see the fish in the water. They're also extremely light weight and I can comfortably wear them for hours. I have two pair: one for fishing and one for driving. They cost a bit more but they hold up very well.

When you buy sunglasses, check for distortion by holding them parallel to the store lights and slowly moving them around to see if the reflected ceiling lights waver.

I have a sunglass collecting fetish (also smiths, colts....). Have Revos, Oakleys, Maui Jim's, RayBans,Costa Del Mar, Ocean Wave etc (I spend alot of time on the water in the summer).
For my money the RayBans (new aviators w/polarized lenses) can't be beat, they're my favorites by far.You will probably have to spend around $150, but they're worth it IMO.

I spent $7 for a pair of Berkley fishing polarized sunglasses and they fit, feel and work just fine. To me a $150 pair of glasses would be a waste of $143.

that's the kind of input I'm looking for!

I certainly don't mind paying $100 if they're worth $99.95

thanks rburg, just bought a pair myself.

Try Costco. They have usually have several big name brands, including Ray Ban and Maui Jim, for a fraction of what you would pay elsewhere.

I'm personally partial to the Maui Jim glasses but they are normally way out of my price range. However, I picked up a nice pair of wire "flexon" frames and grey lenses for $99.00 about 2 years ago. They are my favorite pair.
