Police trade in 64-3

I just bought a model 64-3 police trade in with APD085 stamped on the side and A21 stamped over the serial number. Do any of you Smith experts know if it is possible to identify what department it came from by these markings? Thanks

Don't know where you're located. The only picture with an APD stamping in that location in my files references Austin PD. I think it came up on this forum. No guarantees, though.

That's presumably Austin, TX? There's an Austin, MN. I think that's where the Hormel co. packs Spam and other meats.

Could be Albany, GA or Albany, NY. And on and on...Anaheim. Almagordo...

Ok thanks for the information.I bought the gun off gunbroker from a seller in CO. I figured it would be a long shot to find out what department it came from. Thanks for your help.

Letter it. If S&W manufactured and then shipped them to the police department , the letter will tell you.
My model 64 was marked B.R.P.D. which stood for Baton Rouge Police Department.
It was used by them before they went to the 357 magnum model 66 .
