That would look awesome... I had my 10/22 bolt done from a guy on eBay... Might have to look and see if he can do, or is still doing, bolts and get mine done... Just when i thought I was done mod'n her... Thanks Majorlk :)

Engine-turning is usually done with a rod with abrasive on the end, or grinding compound, and is usually done as many overlapping circles:

Those who polish the bolt should remember that none of the bolt touches /anything/ except for the inside of the slides (almost impossible to polish, and I'd be really concerned with opening up the clearances) or the firing pin end. The rest can be polished for looks, but it wouldn't help with operation.

As to engine-turning, I've rarely seen it done on rounded surfaces, as it really works best on larger, flat surfaces.

It's very common on high end, custom rifles - most of which have round bolts.

In the case of the 15-22, it's pretty much ornamental, as is the majority of what we do to them. :)

I used the red polishing compound that came with my dremel 3000 to start off with then once I was happy with finish I switched to Mothers Power Metal polishing solution to bring out the shine on the bolt. For the rails I followed what others in this thread done. Sanded rails with 150 grit sand paper until the black finish was gone then used the same polishing compounds with the dremel and went slow with it. I really just used what I had any polish will probably do. I just happen to use Mothers on my wheels so that's what I had. I'm happy with it and the action does seem smoother now but I haven't got to shot it since

Yup. When I did mine I used a dremel with a polishing wheel and flitz metal polish. Now they look and feel smooth like chrome.
 
I just don't get any of this. Now I can understand the polish job you do on the stock FCG, as that improves function, but I don't see where anything y'all are doing here does that. I've yet to hear anyone say they were having an issue & this fixed it.

I'm assuming you guys wash & polish your car every week? :D

It's just for fun... Lot's of things we do to these rifles are just for fun.
 
I'm not sure about older bolts, but mine has a teflon like coating that I'm pretty sure was put on there for a reason. Seems like polishing it off might be counterproductive down the road.
