I strive to eschew obfuscation, the finest form of which is sarcasm, because few either understand it or find it amusing. That is not to say that it cannot be perfectly appropriate on occasion - rather like an "inside joke."
Once upon a time, some work associates and I were discussing a restaurant we had all visited at one time or another, and someone ventured that his party had all enjoyed the ambiance there.
One of our less-than-sharp office workers overheard the conversation, and asked what ambiance tastes like - you can imagine the sarcastic responses that generated, all of which pretty much went over that unfortunate's head...
Again, a warning that sarcasm can be hurtful, and needs to be judiciously applied, if at all. Conversely, it can be very useful when and if a jab to the jugular is your intent... like against some politicians who do not deserve by their demonstrated actions to be in "public service." Then, in my opinion, no holds are barred.
