Poor man’s model 66?

I just recently got my first stainless security six. I got it used in a local gun store and the clerk stated that he didn't know anything about it. It shoots very well and has a smooth trigger (trigger job?). It is enough heaver than a model 19 and enough lighter than a model 686 that it is on line to be an everglades carry gun.

That old blue 4" that I had years ago was sort of a junker that I bought at a pawn shop for $125 OTD. Some polish, cold blue, springs and a bit of polish on the internals, and she was actually a pretty durn good gun. Someone doubled my money on it and I let it go. Wish I had kept that one.

Paid $125 (?) for my 6" Stainless in 1976. A pair of Pachmayr grips, a set of Bullseye or Trapper springs lightened the trigger pull while giving 100% reliability. One of my great shooters.

I came into this thread expecting to see a Taurus Model 66.

As I recall, When the border patrol gave Ruger a contract
for these part of the contract was they be able to shoot
10,000 rounds of full power .357 magnum and still be in
in time without excessive barrel wear.

They did it with a smile. For longevity they make smith's
look lame ( not that I will EVER get rid of mine!!. )

I've had mine since the 70's and the only complaint was
Ruger's trigger. I had a trigger job done on it in the late
80's and my wife then said it was her gun.
Having the one that developed the "wiggle" I must have had the one of those 10,000 round ones!:) A buddy of mine wanted a Ruger Security Six in .357 mag. from Clark Custom (this was when Jim, Sr. was running the show). Clark bored out the cylinder of a .38 SPL one to .357 mag. (as he said that he didn't have any in .357 mag. currently in his shop) and did a trigger job. That was one sweet revolver!

I currently have 4 Six series in my stable.
A 6" blue, a 6" stainless, a 4" stainless low-back, and 2-3/4" stainless Speed Six.
Sturdy guns, just not as refined as a Smith. I don't own a Colt revolver so I can't compare.
The last one I think I bought was the 6" stainless. It was as new for $400 I think.
