Possible virus

Don't know if it just me, but in the last few days while clicking on some photos in a post, I get a window that opens saying my computer is being scanned and is at risk. My anti virus software lets me know it is a high risk issue. Have to get off the internet entirely to get rid of it. It says it is McAfee, but that could be a phishing tactic. First time I thought it was a fluke, the second time I am thinking it is not.

Had the same thing happen on my laptop a few days ato, have been putting up with pop up saying Norton has expired (never used Norton), now it says McAfee has expired, but my subscription has several months to go.
Sooo, something needs to be done, but I'm traveling so I need to get home and have some computer geek help out.

Good luck getting this **** sorted out..

I've seen nothing like that on my iPad or PC. You probably picked up a virus somewhere else.

My suggestion is to log off the forum, clear your browse history, cookies, temporary internet files and reboot your computer.

I suggest do a malware scan because you could be infected. There are several free versions you can download and run it.

Search the Web for 'preventing websites sending notifications' for your particular browser. You may find something in there that helps.

Actually I get emails telling me my anti virus is expired. I don’t have any that I pay for. I ignore them.

I look at every photo in every post I read. Never seen that from here, but I'm familiar with those pop-up "Your computer is infected", "Your McAfee/Norton has expired" fake pages that appear. Usually it's a redirect from somewhere else. I suggest that you clean your browser cache, and do virus scans. Include a Malwarebytes scan - install it, remove the problems, if any, then uninstall it (it used to be great free program, but now bugs the **** out of you to buy it and set it as your primary AV).

Coincidentally, my son just told me he’s using Brave Browser, two weeks now, and he gets zero pop ups and it said it has blocked like 7K ads and trackers. That sounds like a lot to me, but anyway he loves it so far. I need to talk to him instead of texting and find out more, but if anyone has heard of it let us know. I may get it for my phone.

javascript is code that is embedded in web pages, is downloaded and run by your browser. The nefarious uses outweigh the legitimate probably by about 100-1. Web sites (or nefarious ads served unknowningly by legitimate web sites) use it to deliver virus payloads, track you, spy on you, etc.

The method needed to disable it depends on the browser. Some don't make it easy (yeah firefox, I'm talking about you).

Only thing is many websites don't work without Java.

In my typical usage, very few (My bank. They should know better). For those I use Brave with shields up. Most of the sites that won't work at all tend to be those fake news click-bait sites.
