Pourpouse of the serrations in the M41

What is the porpouse of the serrations in the upper face of the slide of the S&W41? Something related to the sand serrations in the military assault rifles?

Te barrel have this serrations too, and I have see an image of one M41 barrel with part of this serrations machined to help the expultion of the brass. How common is this custom work done?

It reduces reflection. A smooth surface will glare and will be harder to get a good sight picture.

I´m not refering to de upper face of the barrel, I´m refering to the serrations in the reverse of that face.

Wondered myself, long before I owned one......

I believe the serrations behind the chamber on the inside of the barrel extension are there to prevent accumulated fouling from binding the slide.
