Was traipsing around Billings today. Went into Cabela's Sheel's and a farm store that sells shooting stuff. I got pistol powder. I use a fair amount of 231/HP38 and I got 4 lbs 2 lbs of BE86 and a lb of Red Dot. Also got a 525 box of 22LR Prices were fair with Cabela's being a dollar a pound higher than the other 2 places. Average price was 22.20. 22s were 19.99 out the door. No sales tax in Montana.

Glad you got some powder. My nearest Cabellas is 35 miles away in Oregon and the next closest is in Lacy with is 100 miles away. So I don't go in there that much. I would love to get a few lbs of 231 though. Since it is first come, first serve; even if I call to see if it is there in the store by the time I get there it's Gone.

I got a $100.00 Cabela's gift card for Christmas.....think it's time to traipse over there and see if any powder and 22's have made it down to La.
Could use some of both, been a long dry spell!

Actually I think Cabela's is the last place to look for powder. It disappears so quickly there. They did ont have 22s. The farm store did.as well as the 231(2 max) so I got 22s and 2 231s there..The BE 86 I got at Sheels as well as the Red Dot..then Cabela's had 2 more 231s.. They were also the highest priced establishment At least one pound of 231 will be gone by tonight. Cranking up the Dillon 1050 45 auto machine in an hour..Got nuff stuff to laod an easy 7,000 rounds yippee.

The last powder I got was at Cabelas, 3 lbs of Red Dot sitting on the shelf all by itself.
Cabelas is like a box of chocolates, you just never know what you gonna get.
Last visit it was primers...1,000 each large and small rifle and 2,000 each large and small pistol, on sale too!

I can't imagine needing powder so bad that I would buy it at one of those big-box stores. Around here, Varget is $17 per pound at my gun club (which they have all the time), but $29.95 at Gander Mountain (if they ever have it).

Now Unique and Bullseye are something akin to unicorns around here. Haven't seen any of that in months, sorry to say. I would probably buy Unique anywhere I saw it on a shelf.

I have plenty of Varget and Titegroup, so I'm happy for now. :D

For those of yoou who have to drive a distance to a Cabela's they will hold products at the customer service desk if they have something you want in stock. Call the gun dept and ask if they have a given powder and if they do have them hold it (they will for 10 days) for you.

Hmmm, maybe thats why the powder shelfs are always empty. Its all squirreled away behind the counter for call-in customers who will get by there when they get a chance. :D

I visited my former LGS today. I say former because it is no longer local (I moved away from the area a couple years back and it is currently a 2 hour drive). I only get there now when I have other business in the area.

Anyway, the day before Christmas I was there and bought an 8 lb jug of Bullseye for $124.95. There were many pistol powders available in 1 lb bottles but not much in 8 lb jugs.

Today, I stopped by and bought an 8 lb jug of Win 231 for $129.95. For pistol powder - the shop had 8 lb jugs of Red Dot Bulseye, Win 231, Universal Clays, CFE and Clay Dot. Red Dot, Bulseye, Win 231, Clays, Universal Clays and some others were available in 1 lb bottles.

There was a lot of rifle powder available but since I don't currently load rifle I didn't write down the names.

Stopped at Cabela's on the way home and all they had were a few 1 lb bottles of Unique for $26.
