Finally got all my project done at the new place ( 2 years)so it looks like I may get to start trying to shoot some bullseye . I got out my 2 Springfield Customs that I had built in 2008 and have never fired. I was going over the HB gun and even though the group on the test target was about 1.5 , I really would rather shoot a 9mm. I had seen a Sams M9 for sale on the Bullseye forum but I hated to spend the money since I have so many 9s , PPC models and SP Custom 1911s from shooting PPC.
So I decide to do something really out of the ordinary, I LOOKED AT THE RULES!!!!, Seems that they changed a bunch of Service Pistol rules on March 1st 2019, and made a bunch of additional pistols and parts approved for the Service gun matches.
Along with 1911s in 9mm, the S/W PPC9 was also added, ( and a bunch of others) all pistols must have barrel of 5.4 or less , no bull barrels.
I thought this was great since most PPC shooters just shoot their 6" guns in the open and Distinguished matches, since they changed that rule. It made our 5 inch guns kinda worthless in our discipline. If it had Aristocrat sights it cant be used for anything else as far as stock auto type matches.
Thought this might be of interest and couldn't find another thread on it .
Added some photos, will probably try shooting the Dist Auto 9mm I had made the year they changed the rule to allow 6" guns. It has hardly been used, only as a backup. Take care Bob

Of course competitors that already have their Distinguished Badge will grump about the change being cheezy . JUST like we did when the NRA started allowing the 6" bull barreled guns in Police Distinguished, we all screamed and stomped, but it did get more people to shoot.

I think you'll have fun shooting the leg matches. Looks like you've got some nice bullseye guns.

You're right about the rule changes...it'll bring more shooters on board. The good shooters will still excel, no matter what guns are allowed.

Shoot me a PM and we'll go practice. I'm working on finishing up my last 8 points for .22 CMP Distinguished.
Bob

BOB, THE PROBLEM IS GETTING THE TRIGGER ON THE PPC9 UP TO THE 4LB MINIMUM THE CMP REQUIRES. JP

P.S. I NOW SEE YOU RETIRED. CONGRATS ! SEE YOU IN PEARL.

Good info

Thanks for the updated info. I'm curious, though, why they allow the PPC9 and not the 952. I, like you, have a couple of 9mm 1911 guns that would seem to fit the bill that I used for PPC Distinguished Auto, but leaving out the 952 (presuming trigger weight compliance) seems odd.

My guess is its an oversight, Check the CMP approved service pistol list. It states that they may have missed some and if you will request a certain model ,they will see if it can be approved.

BOB, I SEE YOU HAVE A 9MM PPC BY SPRINGFELD JUST UP THE PULL TO 4LBS . BUT IS SEE YOU HAVE A DECENT 45 HARDBALL GUN BY DAVE WILLIAMS. JUST SHOOT THAT. WITH THE CHANGE IN ALLOWED GUNS THERE WAS AN AMMO CHANGE ALSO. YOU CAN SHOOT ANY JACKETED 45 AMMO. INCLUDING FEDERAL JACKETED SWC MATCH. EASY SHOOTING, LARGER HOLES WHEN IT COMES TO SCORING. ALSO YOU CAN SHOOT RELOADED AMMO. I CAN WALK YOU THRU THE LOADS. JP

I'm pretty sure that you can up the trigger pull weight of any S&W Performance Center semiautomatic simply by bending the sear spring.
