Prayer Request For Rusty's Daughter

As the father of a young girl who was once in a similarly terrible auto accident, I know firsthand the agony Rusty must be experiencing. A prayer has been offered to a merciful God to spare this young lady and grant her a speedy recovery.

An update....

The ortho put Lindsey's leg and foot in a non-walking hard cast today. She has broken bones and tendon damage. In two weeks they will X-Ray it to see if it is healing on its own. If it is she will have to wear the cast for an additional 10 weeks. If it isn't healing they will operate to repair the tendons and pin the bones and she will have to wear a cast for 8-10 weeks.

She is miserable. They prescribed her a Pringles can full of Norco .5's.

re the claim. She has full coverage with GEICO. The other driver who was cited at fault also has full coverage with GEICO. Ruthie has a cousin who is a PC and a cousin who is a FC. Both advised Lindsey to contact a lawyer and they referred her to one they both trust. She has retained him.

Now we wait.

Thanks again for the kind responses.

Rusty, I'm so sorry to hear about this and hoping for a quick and complete recovery.
Still it sounds like it's gonna be a long ordeal including physical therapy.
When an idiot ran a stop sigh on a blind left turn and totaled our Toyota Tacoma truck, the brunt of the collision was on Lisa's side.

I was bruised and banged up a bit but still walked away. Lisa got a trip to the emergency room. Nothing was broken but she did end up in physical therapy for a coupla months with soft tissue damage.

After that, we got a bigger truck.

Thanks for the update Rusty. Sounds like y'all have a plan for all the legal and medical issues here. I hope Lindsey can avoid the surgeries. If it'll work for her the natural healing will be the best way to go.

Most people only have to learn how to walk one time. Due to one careless moment on my motocross bike and I've had to learn how to walk 3 extra times. Anytime there's surgery you have to heal from the injury and then you have to heal from the surgery.

I could write a book....

Please let us know how she's getting along. Prayers to continue for the duration.

Hey Rusty, I hope Lindsey adjusts to being on one leg better than I am. I hobbled onto the shower seat this morning, with all the dignity I could muster with the cast resting on the toilet. Cleaned up, shampooed, feeling like a million bucks.... then I fell down..... twice.

Not wanting the other leg to get all the attention, now the shin on the good leg looks like this, and I ripped the towel bar off the wall. Sigh... :( It's gonna be a looong year.

While her injuries are nothing to sneeze at, thank God for crumple zones, seat belts and air bags! People misunderstand how these help protect and save us, and that's OK because understanding them doesn't effect their ability to save our lives in crashes like this one. Here's hoping Lindsey's recovery exceeds the Dr's expectations. One important note: I'm sure at some point, she will be looking at physical therapy. My strong advice: follow the therapist's recommendations to the extreme, which is to say, strive to be in better shape after completing the therapy than she was before the accident. It will be painful, but the benefits are worth it!

We have been singing the praises of the Honda Fit since this happened. It did what it was designed to do. The front end accordioned and the crumple zone kept the engine out of the cabin. The airbags deployed and the seat belt did what a seat belt does.

We are also extremely grateful that she had the presence of mind to yank the emergency brake handle up.

This could have been much, much worse and we know it.

Rusty, our prayers and best wishes continue for Lindsey. After seeing Bigwheelzip's injuries I wanted to make a pitch for bathroom grab bars. My wife had a bad fall from the shower out onto the bathroom floor, resulting in bruises but thankfully nothing worse. I ordered 5 bars, three with strong suction cups for the plastic shower walls and two steel bars that screw into the bathroom wall studs outside the shower stall. They were less than $20 each from the Carex company, and I'm sure they're available elsewhere. A blessing for anyone that may have a wobbly moment in a slippery environment.

And that is definitely possible. I know because it happened to me after I had my knee surgery 4 years ago. I took my physical therapy seriously, and found that in addition to getting the range of motion back in my knee, but I was feeling better generally through my entire body.
