Absent Comrade
Folks, I could use some prayers for my family and me.
My first wife, the mother of my kids, died at 81 this morning in Rockford, Illinois. She had been receiving chemotherapy following cancer surgery and seemed to be doing well. But she couldn't tolerate the final round, and everything just shut down. She was terribly bipolar, depressive type, and had no real quality of life despite the best efforts of my daughter, with whom she lived. She is better off, and the kids and I know that, but it's still a wrench. She deserved a better husband than I was to her, and we divorced in 1974 because I wasn't.
I'm physically unable to travel; but current plans call for her to be cremated, and then to hold a memorial service here, in the church she attended for many years.
Also my sister was hospitalized last night, after ten hours in the ER, with an infection from a leg injury that they believe has entered her bloodstream. She is on very high-octane IV antibiotics. It's dicey because of her other health problems. To my great frustration, she refuses to let me visit her because the hospital is full of patients with a non-flu but flu-like respiratory illness that's rampaging here. It tends to morph rapidly into pneumonia. She knows my primary doc has said something like that could be a death sentence for me, and she says if I try to visit her she will kick my butt. She means it.
It's been a tough day.
I could use a lot of prayers for her and for my kids and grandkids, and some for me would be great as well.
Thanks.
