My sweet sister in-law is in intensive care fighting a blood and heart infection and I just heard the doctors say there is nothing more they can do for her and the kicker is they are putting it on my 18 year old nephew to make the decision to put her on life support or let her go. I can not imagine what pressure and pain he must be enduring right now. I pray that god gives him the strength and comfort to get thru this. She has had a hard life with many obstacles that I would not wish on my worst enemy but has always had a heart of gold and best intentions. It is just sad it has come to this.

Thanks, Captcook

Prayers for everyone. Has your sister-in-law made her wishes known for a time like this? Does the nephew have a religious leader to consult? Has he asked for help? Stand with him now and after.

Y'all need a miracle here. I know they don't always happen that's why they call them miracles. I'm throwin' big-time prayers up to the BOSS for one for y'all now. I pray you can hang on to your hope and keep a positive attitude. God bless.

My mom was handed that dilemma with my dad. She couldn't do it. She handed it off to me.

In that moment, the weight that I can't describe, shifted to me.

I can't imagine an 18 year old having to make that call.

I pray for God's hand on both of them.

In His name.

What an awful decision for a teenager to have to make!

He'll need tons of support as he makes the choice, and much, much more afterward, whatever the outcome.

I'm certainly sending prayers for strength and comfort for all concerned.

Prayers offered up for all. Tough call, but as a family member would it be possible for you to take the decision off his shoulders?

As many other posters have already said, this is an awful decision for anyone, let alone a teenager, to make. I pray that God will give him the strength to make the decision and comfort him regardless of what that decision is.

Prayers from a brother in Christ.

Several years ago I was in church leadership and our pastor had just left. An elderly lady from our church called me and wanted me to come see her immediately. Turns out her sister had just had some major surgery in Nevada (we were in Kansas) and did not come out of the surgery and the doctors were asking her to make a decision whether to pull the plug or not. The first question I asked was if she knew and had trusted Christ, the second was does she believe that God is ultimately in control. There are many instances where doctors think they know what is going on only to find out they don't. People have been taken off life support only to come back to life. The point is, we think we are in control but we really are not. That is what I would tell the 18 year old boy. It is not fun though, trust me.
