Pre-29 coming home

Congrats to the OP,
Nice to see the old gals trading hands, meeting new people, making new friends.
I have spent the last few years waiting for a decent 29-2 to show up at a fair price and watched them go up and up in price...$1000, $1500, $2k, now I see the 29-2's going for over $3k sometimes.
So when this pre-29 came up for sale at a honey hole I figured I'd rather pay a good price for a pre-29 than wait for 29-2's to start selling for $1k again.

Nice box too. And I honestly like the fact it had been used as a coaster! I like stuff that shows use.

While we waiting for your pictures, here are a pair of 4" 4-screw pre-29s...

Wow! The blued one would shame a Royal Blue Python, IMO! We give up, you've won!

Well this is dang fascinating! My incoming is a duplicate serial number according to the records. S174281 shipped either in June or August to one of two locations (the advantage of being an SWCA member!).

Anyone here have the duplicate? Sure would be fun to have Truly matching .44s!
A10, I don’t understand how a duplicate serial number happens, is it just a factory mistake, or is there a specific reason for it? Nice gun, BTW!

Factory screw up. Back in the olden days they didn't track serial numbers as closely, since registration and other government infringements hadn't been invented yet. I think it was the GCA of 1968 that started requiring unique serial numbers for each firearm.

It's not THE duplicate but S&W accidently produced 105 Single Shot 22's with the same SN's back in 1920. They added a D prefix to the second group.
