His family released the following statement this afternoon:

""After a series of short hospital stays, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention," a statement from the organization reads. "He has the full support of his family and his medical team. The Carter family asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers."

He turned 98 in October.

His humanitarian efforts after he left office were quite extensive. I'll always remember his work with Habitat for Humanity.

I understand that we're supposed to not like Carter, and I don't agree with a lot of his politics, but I always liked him as a human. He's a decent, honest man, has strong faith, served his country, and is a good family man. I also believe that he was man of the people, not a typical corrupt, lying politician. Pretty rare qualities these days in politics.

I'll never forget an interview that I watched him on around 15 years ago. He said his campaign funds for his first Presidential campaign consisted of the funds that came from the tax return filings where people were given the option to donate $1 to the election campaign fund. This money was split between the Democrats and Republicans, and was something like a million dollars ($500k to each party). He said when he ran his second campaign against Reagan, Reagan had over $100 million in campaign contributions from corporations. He went on to say that what we have now in American politics is nothing more than legalized bribery. Like him, or not, he's not wrong…. The interviewer moved right along without acknowledging the comment!

Handpicked by Rickover for the fledgling nuclear submarine program. That speaks volumes.

He has done far more to help his fellow man in the last 40+ years than most people have past and present. For that he has my admiration.

Truly a good and faithful servant.

Prayers for a gentle passing.

While one might quip leaving office was the first of his humanitarian efforts, what he has done since has atoned for his work prior.
Peace and mercy shall be his

Sometimes memory overshadows emotion. I remember lining up for gas during the 2nd "gas crunch" on my way to work and the price doubled from $.50/gal to $1.00. $10 limit so my lead sled Oldsmobile needed it every other day. "Put a sweater on and set your thermostat to 68* or lower." I guess "honest" works. God Bless. Joe

Over 30 years ago, I had a chance to hear him teach Sunday School at his church in Plains. Afterward, we got to shake his hand and tell him how much we enjoyed his class. He was very humble and gracious -- there was something about him -- something that didn't come across on the TV. It's hard to explain, but we were left with the district impression that we had just met a great human being.

I've come to believe it was the humanity we admire now that hindered him as President. You don't send the Pope to buy dope. He was too honest, too decent for politics, but he may have been the last vestige of honesty and decency in American politics. Now I'll take my ding and go quietly.

I remember paying 17.5% interest when we bought our home. Thanks Jimmy!

I cashed in a CD at 12% interest to buy a boat. The boat dealer chastised me for paying cash and got me a 12% boat loan. I bought another CD at 14%.

I suppose going off the gold standard in the early 70's resulting
in the dollar falling like a rock around the world had nothing to
do with inflation and rising interest rates?

May I add he was the most moral president in my life time.
