Someone I know made a deal for a bunch of guns and this came in with it. Trying to figure out what its worth.

M27-2 .357 Magnum SB P&R 5 inch blued TH TT #N607724 wood box docs no mop, rod or screwdriver. Really nice shape. What looks like muzzle wear is glare.

The mop and brush are easy. Hoppe's items are virtually the same thing. The rods are out there. You could cut down a longer one. The threads are 8/32. Nice piece. I'd guess at least 1,200.

Those case liners look really nice. Usually the bottom half is beat up pretty good by the gun dancing around in it.

That's a nice one! It dates to early 1979 and appears to be in very nice condition. I think the guys are right, it's worth somewhere in the $1200-$1500 range with the case. Although 5" bbl. versions are not rare, I don't see them very often, and many collectors think that it's the most balanced and aesthetically pleasing of the .357 Magnums (and Model 27s). Enjoy!

The factory wire brush and mop have a different wire material than current Hoppe's parts.

5" 27

"The parts are worth more than the whole!" Take good care of that case! The 5" was made with that type of liners only from 1974-1979. They are rather hard to find, with no cracks and/or holes are even harder, and with the lift tab and paper is almost never seen for sale! It is probably worth between $400-$500! Maybe everyone's gestimate should be adjusted a little higher!

Thanks for the info Joe. I have the same box with tools/paperwork (but not the yellow pull tabs) and good condition interior. I find storing the boxes a nuisance, but have kept a few of them.

I have one, in nickel, a few thousand SNs later than yours with the box, paperwork and tools. Paid $495 OTD for it; although that was 14 years ago. I'd be surprised to find it tagged at less than $1500 where I shop but would be trying to buy it in the $1200 or less range.

The last 27-2 I actually bought was a six inch in nickel in nice condition but without the box/paperwork/etc. and paid $811 out the door and thought that was a great price. Add some premium for the five inch and Joe's estimate for box value and you're in the $1200-$1500 range. I don't value the boxes that high, but others clearly do. Good luck.

True...I already had a 5" 27-2 when I was walking through a gun show and a vendor I happen to know said, "Hey, some guy just gave me this and I don't need it, what would you give me for it?"...It was a S&W presentation case in decent shape with tools in it, so I said $25 and walked away with it...

When I got home, I noticed it was too long for a four inch, and too short for a 6"...So it and my 27-2 have been paired (yet stored separately) ever since...:)...Ben

I'm curious what the value would be with everything included? I ask because I have two of them, 1 slightly used, and 1 as new with shipping container. I'm curious how much value that would add.

Jeff, I need to shop where you shop. My new 6" nickel -2 cost me $1100 with no box. It's a real nice one though. N115xxx.

Funny story with my 6 inch. I was in one of the big box stores not known for its low prices. The 27-2 was tagged at $999 and I tried to negotiate a better price a couple different ways. No dice, checked with management, can't come down. "Ok, guess I'll take it anyway."

Big box store so someone else eventually comes back with its soft case and we proceed to do the 4473. The soft case has two tags which are identical except with two different price tags; $999 and $750. The young lady says "which is the right tag?" I said "I much prefer the $750 one although the other one was on it." She went to the back, came back awhile later and used the $750 price.

I'd say the NIB one with its shipping container is in the $2k range. The whole package doesn't show up all that often.

Thank you Jeff, that was what I was thinking also. Since I'll never shoot it and have an identical one that I do shoot, I've started thinking about letting it go. As I get older, I'm realizing that my wife and kids don't need this much hassle when I'm gone, and they wouldn't appreciate them as much (or at all) as I do.
