What is a NIB, Blue Cardboard Box with Silver Lettering, All Papers, Model 60 likely to bring in your area. I saw not one, but two on a dealers table at a show for $650. each.

The box you describe (depending on the details) was used from 1965 to about 1980; this would be a fair price for one early in this time frame and $150 high or so for a late one. Did you note the serial numbers?

Model 60's

Both were about 1979 to 1980. So based on your reply you agree that they were a bit pricey? I thought that they were but the prices have been so crazy lately it's hard to know.

In a rational world, yes; but the gun market has been irrational recently. There's a little evidence of prices coming down recently.

.357 or .38 spl? Make s a big difference in price. Either way if they are from the 1970s and truly LNIB with all paper work..and .357 mag then that is $50-$100 too high. If .38 spl. I think about $150 too high...IMHO. I was at a pawn shop today and they wanted $750 for a model 60 3" with IL. CT grips. No box and it had see a lot of use...but then I stopped into the Fin Feather and Fur later today and they had NIB model 60's for $647 -$669 (2" std, Lady Smith, and a 3")
Also my LGS recently sold a PC model 60 3" .357 mag for $699.
It is hard to rationalize a SS gun selling for more than a new one. Granted it has a pinned barrel and no IL. Both pluses to me...
The used gun market is goofy over the past 2 years. Follow your gut.

Model 60's

The two I saw were both 38 Spl. only. I didn't think about the newer 357 Magnum 60's. I have been around too long to think Model 60 and not think 38 Spl.
I suppose that would be tamer than an Airweight in 357 magnum. I have seen a number of those come back to gun shows after one trip to the range. Usually some guy buying for his wife or girlfriend.

The .357 model 60 was introduced in 1996, so well after the era of two-piece blue boxes with silver lettering.

Ron, I was able to get a 60 no dash last November for $425, but I think that was well below market value. While not NIB, it is in EC with original box and paper. The serial number is R150xx. I was suprised to get it at that price and sprained my wrist going for my wallet. I posted pics of it back then.

I bought one yesterday, 1979/1980 production. It has been fired, but seems to have had very little use and is in pristine condition. It had aftermarket Herrett Shooting Ace grips, and an IWB Bianchi holster (unfortunately left handed). No original grips or box. I got it for $400 plus tax and was very pleased with the price. I had been looking at a 36 of the same vintage that was in nowhere near as good condition (scratches, surface rust and slight pitting) and the dealer would not budge from $425.

I traded a 15-3 4" for a 60ND. Both had been shot, no box/papers. The guy really didn't want the 15 so I added a few bucks because I wanted the 60 bad enough. It all evens out over time because I had got the 15 by trading a 36 which had been really neglected but was duracoated or parkerized so it looked pretty. You win some, you lose some. If you see something you really want does a couple of bucks either way matter?

I've got two of them. One I bought new in 1971 for less than $125.00. The other I bought at a pawn shop a few months ago for $300.00 OTD. They obviously didn't know what they had and I paid what they asked minus sales tax. I didn't need it because I still have the one I bought 42 years ago but I wasn't going to leave that deal laying there either. It didn't matter though. My daughter saw it and decided I didn't need two of them. I "loaned" it to her.

That $300 is a great price! I've bought three different no-dash model 60's in the past 6 or 8 months, two pinned barrels & one unpinned-- paid $400 or $425 each time. But no box or etc. What's that add- another $100 maybe? Sold one of them (pinned barrel, original s/n'd grips) for $475 not long after I bought it.

Gotta ressurect this one...

I just looked at an M60 no dash. I'm not sure how old it is. Its in good condition and doesn't look to have been beat/neglected. Has a set of Pachs on it. A couple minor scratches here and there. Looks like it was carried quite a bit, which is to be expected for a little guy like that.

Price is $400 and I am very interested in it.

Are there any distinguishing feature I should be looking for on this that would make $400 a good price or bad price??

Yes, beware of other guys hovering over the gun with $400 cash in hand. :)

Seriously, if the gun is nice and tight, that would be a good buy. The minor scratches on a M60 can be polished out easily with a dab of Flitz or Mother's Mag Polish.

I paid $550 for an unfired, NIB, no dash M60 from 1984.
This was on Gun Broker a year ago.

Best,
Rick

I passed on a NIB M60 ND ca 1975 last year because at $550 I felt it was about $50 too high.
Now I wouldn't make the same mistake.
But $650? I dunno, that may be $50 too high LOL.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

That M60 was at a shop I don't frequent much. I ended up going to my usual LGS to discuss my best options to get rid of a thumb through SKS that takes AK mags that I have. Long story short, he gave me great advice and I followed it. I put it on GB last night and within an hour and a half it sold for over twice what both dealers were willing to give me in trade. And my usual dealer has,.... er had a nice little 36-7. Needless to say, I made a deposit on that so he would hold it till my rifle sold.

So, rifle is sold. Now just going through the process of getting paid and getting it shipped. As soon as that is done, I'll be bringing my first J-frame home! I'm happy happy happy! :) From what I can gather, I believe this little 38 was made in the early 90's. I'll be sure and post some pics in a new thread in the correct category when I get it home...

Who knew these things could be so addictive????!! Got my first in Nov of 2010. 3 years later I am about to bring my 6th S@W home! :D

$650 for a Model 60 is a bit high, but NIB IS NIB!

If you are going to shoot it and have the patients to keep looking, you might finds a 98% - 99 % gun for $450 - $500 but will it be totally complete with all accouterments? Who knows. If I had a hankering for an absolutely NIB gun of a particular model I suppose I'd eat the $50 buck premium. At least you know what you're getting.
