What's a good price for a NIB one of these? I've been looking for one for a while, and finally found some in stock for $410. I'm in no rush to buy one, but is this as good as it gets for pricing, or can they be had lower. Has to be new, I like my guns new.

That's not too bad. They're going for anywhere between $389 and $400 here in MA. They were $359 before all the nonsense!

Total cost would be $430 delivered to my local gun store. Really like the look and simplicity of this gun. It does seem gun prices are slowly coming down, so might wait and see if I can find it closer to $350.

J-frames are in high demand. $430 total cost seems reasonable. I paid the list price of $689 + tax for my 351c and was happy to finally find one.

That isn't much if any more than they were going for around here close to a year ago. In the post-Sandy Hook panic market, prices have gone up & availability has gone way way down. If it was me, I'd snap it up.

Not sure what "IL" means. If its the lock, I'm not sure if it has the lock, doesnt say in the description, so will find out when its delivered. They have two models for sale. The regular and the one in my last post. I'm having it shipped to my local FFL dealer. Hopefully pick it up at the end of the week, will report if it has the lock or not.

In my area, $375 to $460, dependent on the LGS. Some are stingy, and some aren't.

Look on the S&W factory webiste, they have 3 pages of j-frames. The no-lock 442 and 642 are shown separately from the IL versions. You can get the product codes & see which one matches your order.
Last year (pre-Sandy Hook), the Sportsman Warehouse chain apparently purchased both and it was just a matter of chance which ones ended up in which store. I asked about getting a no-lock 442, turns out they had one at another store on the other side of the state but they told me they'd charge me an extra $30 or so to have it sent over. Pissed me off so I declined, I ended up finding a great deal on a gently used one for $300 so went that way instead.

From what I can gather from the number I put in the website, it seems there's no lock. There's no mention of the lock, or pictures. I guess I will find out on Friday, it's scheduled to be delivered via FEDEX. Very quick turn around, from ordering late Tuesday. Here's what the number pulled up on the website.

Product: Model 642

Just thought I'd share a couple of quick pics of the gun that was sent. I'm very happy with the gun, and fired a few rounds through it today. I love the feel of it, and its a fantastic carry gun, when the weather hot, and you want to pocket it. Only slight drawback was the small scratch on it, but its a tool not a show piece.

You'll like that pistol. Ive carried one for the last few years in a pocket holster and it has been the perfect carry gun.

So, how's the recoil with the good looking croc grips?
I've never shot mine with wood, just rubber.
Those are some excellent pics, too.
I used snap-caps with a 442; after about 500-600
dryfires, you could tell the difference in smoothness.
I took my time, and did 1,000 dryfires in 4 days. The
642 and a former armorer taught me how to shoot
accurately in DA. (Mine's got the lock, too.)
